Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to get an old HP 18" J2 slab saw going and need a little help with wiring the switch.
I added an outlet box to plug the motor into and a manual switch to shut it off. That seems to be working.
I'm also trying to add an auto shut off switch for the feed. This is just a switch, no feed motor. After all my searching online I still can't seem to get it. I keep popping the circuit breaker and even causing some exciting sparks a few times. Figure I better stop guessing.
Anyone know where I might tie in the black and white wires coming from the auto switch? The diagram shows how I have it wired without the auto switch wires connected.
Thanks, Ron

You only need one switch, run your cord to your motor, plug in the white wire to the line 2 on the motor, run your black wire to the auto shutoff switch and back to the motor and plug it into the line 1 on the motor or the hot lead, whichever it shows you in the diagram. Your auto shutoff switch will now serve as your switch for the motor and the auto shutoff. I like to use float switches for the shutoff switch because they are a positive shutoff, those light switches can shut half way off and turn back on when you move the carriage.
Good Luck with it................Tony

If you really want to make that work the way you have it setup then you need to run the power-in black wire to the first switch, then the black wire does not go to the plug in, it goes to the other shutoff switch, then the second wire from the other shutoff switch goes to the copper side of the plug in receptacle.
You will basically have two shutoff switches on the incoming hot line, both will need to be turned on for it to work, but either one will shut if off.

I like to use float switches for the shutoff switch because they are a positive shutoff, those light switches can shut half way off and turn back on when you move the carriage. I've been tucking relays into my control boxes to prevent this. Is there some type of special 'float' switch I don't know about? got a link or example? thx

It looks to me, on the second picture, running hot [black wire] and neutral [white wire] off a switch will create a dead short. Making an assumption wire color is properly followed.

Thanks for the help everyone. Moved a few wires per Tony's suggestion and now it's doing what I want.
