I estimated 20 slabs. The thicknesses vary. They were all hand pushed through the little saw. I could trade if anyone is interested. They’re not Linde so the QC isn’t perfect. They should all star though. The asterism is strong enough that relatively flat cabs still star nicely. I paid $2.00 per gram. After sawing and grinding off high spots, I value them at $2.00 per carat, negotiable. It seems like a pretty big jump in cost but hardness 9 and breaking during sawing makes it seem fair to me. That little chunk with the seed crystal is pretty cool and should star. I did my best to cut them perpendicular to the C-axis. It’s not so easy pushing them through the saw by hand. They’re all solid with no cracks. There are some saw marks that look like cracks, but a little grinding will fix them. The broken piece will make a nice star too. You can saw any of these into four pieces and get four nice stars. gemfeller these are from the source you sent me. My photography skills are less than stellar. The slabs are decent and I think all of them are cut less than 15 degrees from perpendicular to the C-axis.

How exciting! How long does it take for the saw blade to get through a cut?

RWA3006 . Only a couple minutes but the angle is important. They almost always break before the saw gets to the end of the cut.

Do you think they break because they're handheld (which is how I cut my rough), and the angle could be getting "tweaked" right at the end...or is it just getting "weak" by that point and breaking due to the instability? Fantastic batch out of that boule Brent!

catmandewe I like stars. These things are guaranteed stars. I have a good source right now. They are not Lindes, but they’re made the same way. Easy to cab and very hard. I still have pounds of trail 281 Idaho garnets. I’m so buried in star material, I don’t know what to do. I’m trying to educate my children on the value of some of this stuff. Take care my friend.
