Hey Perkins, wow, apparently I got a slap down deal. And I saw one in a video that they wanted $1500 for. So, unlike Mike Wolf on American Pickers, I didn’t offer him more money. Mainly because I didn’t have a clue at that point what the stuff could be worth. He was only asking $300 for the whole lot, I almost burned my tires off getting to the bank after I saw the equipt. I made it easy on the counting, three $100 bills. My little lady will be pleased to know that I did not get ripped off in this endeavor, she is quite the skeptic. Plus, she’s glad I got something to occupy my time.
Also, today I just figured out I’ll probably have around 100 pounds of raw rock. I have some very interesting looking rocks that I picked up while trucking across the country. Today I spent an hour and a half taking pictures of them and I want to see if my amateur eye saw good stuff. I need to reduce the size of the pictures cause I think they’re too big. But I can’t find out how to get back to the place where you can do that. Help?!

You got a hell of a deal. That equipment looks used but well taken care of. The wheels and blades you showed are well worth what you paid for the whole lot. I do second that idea that you try to join a local rock club and learn everything you can. This is a great place for information but a little hands on training will shorten the learning curve. Please show us the rocks you collected and tell us where you picked them up if you can.

catfish After uploading and posting photos I do this. Go to edit. Then BBC code. Each uploaded photo is listed. The percentage says 100%. I usually reduce that to 60% for 72 DPI 10" maximum photos. Hope this helps. Sounds like you got an exceptional deal. Can't wait to see the rocks.

$300 for that lot is a serious steal. I have a 10" saw that looks identical to your stand-alone saw, so i'm assuming yours is a 10" also? And i have a 10" flat lap that resembles your Craftsman. You could probably get 300 each out of those if they're in good working condition.
Fair warning if you do decide to start cutting / polishing, be ready to throw some more money into your equipment and supplies. I got a lesser deal that included my 10" saw, another 6" saw, a 2-wheel arbor, and a vibe tumbler for $400, and I've probably spent twice that on blades, wheels, grit and misc. supplies. Not trying to dissuade you from lapidary work just sharing my own experience.

Wow guys, I am elated, excited and can’t wait to get started! Now my main thing is to find somebody with some woodworking equipment so I can build my stand for my Frantom. I’m sure somebody in my local Moose has some of that equipt.
Tommy, in admin, gave me a map on how to get to the Cloudinary site where I could change the upload size. And I got that done, so stand back, I’m fixing to upload all these pictures! I guess I will upload them right here. I took two different pictures of each rock, so most sides could be seen.

I don’t use that little icon. There’s an upload file button that works on my phone.

I do not remember exactly where I picked up any of these individual beauties. But I spent a lot of time at truck stops, bored out of my gourd. So I wandered around, and I found most of these rocks at truck stops. If anybody goes to raid a truckstop, please be careful, those big rigs can be dangerous if you’re not used to being around them. Sometimes the drivers can’t see little bitty pedestrians. Sometimes rest areas might be a good source, I’m sure I found some in a rest area somewhere, over the10-11 years I was driving.

catfish, 300$ is a steal! You definitely didn't get taken. Especially because they look like they might only need minor repairs. You also have some awesome rocks that you collected! Personally, I think Mike is crazy when he offers more than they are selling it for. Doesn't he have a business to run?....

Also, with that equipment you can cut, make cabachons, polish flat surfaces, and tumble stones. Once you learn how to use it you will have a lot of fun with it!
