I had a ton of rusty screws, nails, and other corroded metal parts laying around and an empty tumbler. The tumbler I used rotated at ( I think) and excess of 50 rpms. I added enough sand to fill about 1/4 of the rocks and enough water to keep the sand wet but not super wet. I then tumbled for around and hour (probably two for you Lortone 3lb users) and then removed. I then added dawn dish detergent and water and burnished for about 10 or 15 minutes. This will NOT give you a highly polished metal part and will instead do the exact opposite. You will have an dull looking porus surface. Do not do this on high value material. I did this just to get screws and extremely low value parts in working order. For heavily corroded parts, you may have to run for days. You probably could run dry for faster results but I was worried about the fire hazard.

I saw another thread where someone used a recipe similar to this to "antique" the metal.
