[img style="max-width:100%;" src="http://res.cloudinary.com/dyvif2maz/image/upload/ This is a recent tumble that I have finished. The very last one in the bottom row to the right is a silver nugget that I wasn't aware of til the pre-polish stage! I need to get my photography skills honed.

Looks like you got a nice shine on them!
Smaller groups of rocks will allow you to get closer. Also, cropping the excess from around the photo will also enlarge the picture. A lot of us struggle with the photography aspect (especially me - worse photographer ever)!

Great batch. You seem to be getting some really good shine on what appears to be granite. I haven't gotten good results on granite yet. I'm not sure if it's just patience I am missing or something else. Are you using a rotatry or vibratory tumbler?

Great job on the tumble. Thank goodness the silver turned out shiny too. That could have been a total loss.

Some others I got from a retired Earth Science teacher who was into rocks. So I'm not sure what was what. I don't know much about identifying material, but I will look for that small one and get a better/closer shot of it and post it here.

They do look "far away" so what you said makes sense!

Thank you electrocutus , granite is a really hard stone to get to shine evenly because of all the undercutting. I am not good at identifying stones but so much of what I had collected for years was granite that that's what I used. I tumble (Lorotone QT66) in 60/90 and use the Lot-O for the next three steps.

Great job on the tumble Don! Pretty cool...change that to REALLY cool on the discovery of that silver nugget! (I really like the "organized" group shot you got there! It reminds me of those "full class" school photos when we were kids! )

Some of the material that I have here was from a retired Earth Science teacher who was into rocks. I just took some to add to this tumble and wasn't paying any attention, that's how the silver one got in.

Some of mine I self.collect and don't get an identification on.

Now that you've mentioned it the rock placement does resemble those old school pictures. I followed hummingbirdstones advice and took smaller shots that were up close, makes a big difference!

Looks like you've got some granite, gneiss, quartzite, and maybe a few little pieces of chert. These look nearly identical to 99% of the rocks I find in and around my property here in Michigan. I can see they are shiny, but move in a little closer with the camera so we can appreciate the details.
