Great rocks Gaetz! Great story too. My dad used to get so mad at me when I was a kid and he'd take me deer hunting near Plum Creek in NE Calif. He'd leave me to watch some deer trail and come back to find me in the obsidian beds with my rifle leaning against a tree and my pockets full of rock. Wouldn't have seen a buck if it kicked me in the posterior! Heck didn't like venison anyway. Dad was a taxidermist and I didn't get much real meat like beef, just crappy deer meat and pheasant all full of lead shot. I have some rhyolite that looks very similar to your banded rock that is called Bryce Canyon Fantasy Stone and hails from southern Utah....mel

Darned if I don't find myself hunting rocks more than deer these days myself. Less mess, less cost(??), no skinning, and the rocks don't bleed all over everything. And the top number one reason.......
I find more trophy rocks than trophy bucks!!!!!!!!!!
