This was cool too Teli I went out to shoot Papago During this Valley Thunder head build up A ranger pulled up on the side of the road to tell me of approaching dust storm I started thanking and then a car was pulling up behind the truck. So I thought-- off they’ll gohs Butte she pulled off to the side to allow the car to pass Imagine someone willing to listen to themohs long rap ? And I did ! going on w/ my tall tales & quick views Hohokams, LDM, downtown..ectal When I mentioned Wallace & LadMo she looked at me strangely I asked: where are you from She said : Virginia! Well that led to the Tela sand story, rocks, pendants ,,,ect... Her name is Jana Smart ranger !
I was wondering why my ears were ringing.

What follows is not overly exciting yet it geologically rocks & I tinkest one of my hobbies Is street photoning w/ELF While cruising about a humongous block of rock On a pallet caught my eye Stop the Car! That block is about 5 feet long Its huge heavy and being kept for something After inspection I think it slag A couple small pieces were broken off on it Real fine grain and small pockets What I think was formed by gas bubbles The block is in yard that manufacturer of rebar or least wholesalers So slag may make sense.. Maybe it stored to be used?

This is unusual plant I saw in Papago this morning mohs , I've got a name for the unusual plant you took a picture of in the Papago which you posted on Oct 3. Calotropis procera It is in the milkweed family (think Monarch butterfly food!) Some common names - French-cotton Prince-of-Wales crown Roostertree Sodom's-milkweed Sodom-apple Apple-of-Sodom "Calotropis procera is a species of flowering plant in the family Apocynaceae that is native to North Africa, Pakistan, tropical Africa, Western Asia, South Asia, and Indochina. The green fruits contain a toxic milky sap that is extremely bitter and turns into a gluey coating which is resistant to soap." And, I might add, don't get the sap in your eyes!

Right on Jean Phoenix seems to be on a milkweed monarch kick Last season they were passing out seeds to hikers I drove by those plants this morning will be watching their progress Pretty unusual sure rangers are growing them This is one of my favorite photos The Monarch was just there And I snapped it fast Amzed how well it came out with the NikonCoolPix ________________________________________________________________________Reading about Calotropic and Milton's Poem ...greedy they pluck'd
The Frutage fair to sight, like that which grew Neer that bituminous Lake where Sodom flam'd; This more delusive, not the touch, but taste Deceav'd; they fondly thinking to allay Thir appetite with gust, instead of Fruit Chewd bitter Ashes, which th' offended taste With spattering noise rejected: oft they assayd Hunger and thirst constraining...
(bk. 10, ll. 520–528)all I need is more temptation... _________________________________________ [/b] I'm stoked now to know that this plant may attract Monarchs I'll be on the look out for photo oppo's ...

mohs. Re monarch butterflies: A woman about a half mile away gives away figs—- lots of them. She contacts me when they have too many. I help her out by taking the bag she offers. We like figs!! We planted a baby fig tree in December. Gave us 11 figs first thing! Her husband says they have 11 million! She is also the monarch butterfly lady. Has her front yard planted to attract them. I was surprised the first time I was there. Apparently I woke them up. Fluttered all around me to check me out, I guess. They don’t bite!😄 I get to replenish my fig supply every couple of weeks, and be greeted by butterflies! What could be better?

At an event related to my new PT job I got a little education on Cholla vs Teddy Bear Cholla from a geologist turned therapist. With a name like teddy bear you might think warm and fuzzy, but not so. A plant that senses mammals passing by and drops/tosses a little branch bit to hopefully get caught in fur/clothing and transport it to a place for it to take root, potentially taking it's host closer to becoming fertilizer. Desert life is so delightful. The season for more adventures is indeed upon us, soon we'll get the Maricopa pass so we can go to White tanks, Hassayampa preserve, etc any time we want.

Cracked the stashed VerdeStone this morn! This rock is geologically fascinating Not for any lapidary purposes Butte geologically unique - Perhaps, even rare. It rather large chunk of rock butte w/ just few well places hammer whacks (actually pings) it snapped planarly clean Those edges are sharp! brought home the heel of the stone The rest remains stashed Sure like to get some input on what type of formation & Mineral composition it is ?
