I did some cursory looking maybe a common blue mud dauber or in my opinion it looks more like a steel blue cricket hunterhowever says it's not necessarily a native Phoenician

These 2 strange flying insect Were in the rock yard attached difficult time trying to capture a sedentary photo they were fluttering about And avoiding me & the camera ha The bluish critter reminds me of a tarantula wasp Anyone have any other i.d.? Thanks... Hey, mohs ! The one on the right looks like a banded cricket. The dark/black one on the left looks like some kind of predator eating the hapless cricket. Hey wait, it does kind of look like a tarantula hawk (that irridescent black/blue), but I see no wings. I know they catch insects, give them a paralyzing bite, lay an egg on it, and stuff it down into a burrow, where the egg hatches, then their larvae use the bug for food. So, they are connected by the eating bug's mouthparts holding on to the butt of the cricket! Yum yum! My guess, I may be wrong? This is the first capture shows how the waspish hawkish was firmly atop the other I took about 6 pics As I chased them about I was surprised the previous shot Which was the last in the series Showed how that brown critter had elongated itself As I was snapping the shot I thought how cool It would be to a capture that agate And the bugs Anyway the agate shot was the last of the series Pretty sure the waspish hawkish or mud dauber remounted after that Thanks Jean Appreciate the info! right on Chad I think that brown critter is a cricket figured it was mating season or feeding season one of those life cycle things,,,mostly

Right on Rick
That what it be
Just to refresh everyone memory 40 years ago I captured an award winning National Geo shot
Out at Seven Springs Driving down a dirt road Saw a dragging soming across the dirt road
Stop the Car !
it was a wasp hawk dragging a huge paralyzed tarantula
As I crouched down to take the photo That wasp let go of the tarantula, got up on its hinds leg & threatened me
As I recalled it had that blueish green iridescence body W/ maybe red wings?
snapped the shot It was a clastic!
Lost in the fire of life
Jus have to believe me…mostly Ha

Lousy picture Hunk of Az Petrified A really cool quartz cluster specimen That hardly shows the facets & naturally round quartz Stone Which I find remarkable How long did that stone roll ?

Here a couple that have me i.d flummoxed Is that blue real? Or is this piece of glass? This specimen really rocks Some sort of metallic crystallization growth ? How can I tell what type of metal its is? I was thinking lead or galena. Not sure those substances have that crystallization growth pattern? What even more amazing in my way of thinking Is substructure sedimentary sandstone this metal rest on. Due to the bright sun, or my skills, have difficult time capturing the fine grain & pure sparkly surface Is really remarkable So anyone have ideas on how this forms? Assuming all this was done under pressure Did the sand stone exist first, and then- the metallic crystallization form on it? Or was the crystallization already existing, and then- the sedimentary process form around those crystals? Or none the above ? thanks for looking and thoughts?

Yo Rick RickBThose stone fish hooks and knapped points Are a really fine skill you have Keep ya productive along with your other activites Right on I wake a few times before dawn Luckily- so far- I been able to go back to sleep Sunrises are not my thing …mostly Butte this heat is on== all over So take it easy I really want to get some idea on the Blue & gray waxy textured rock That blue seems unnatural so I'm thinking glass. Yet the pattern reminds me of Brazilian agate or maybe even obsidian This thread doesn’t get much traffic So I may have to make a separate thread Tanks Ed

Interesting experiment found a gold nugget * by the library’s killer sandstone wall would stash it in a niche pf the wall look for it on my returns found it 4 or 5 times Well its missing some other rockbound eyed it Good for them Sometimes I stash rocking hearts about And see if they show up missing Been known to happen still waiting to photograph Vanadium crystal cluster * actually gold painted basalt well done!
