If ya'll can help me figure out how to take better pics, plz tell me....I'm using the macro setting with flash and indoor light cuz its already dark when I get home from work now.

Nothing wrong with those photo except the size is a bit large. Hard scrolling back and forth to see the picture. Are you using photobucket? I think there's 3 links there to choose from, but am not sure which one it is that gives a smaller size photo. KD or one of the others uses it so could tell you for sure.

No, you don't have to wash them, just put them in the tumbler and start rolling. I did use pellets with mine all the way through, I didn't want any chance of having fractures and chips all over them. Watch them closely too, they can wear down fast but it seems the pellets slow that down a little bit.

Shoot Xena your pictures look real good to me! I think the white is just a thin crust of perlite, the volcanic material from which they are dug in Superior, Arizona. Like Sandman says, comes right off in the first grind. Think you'll really like it when those are done. Apache tears from that area are really translucent. Look like fine quality smoky quartz when you hold them to the light!..mel

yuppers...use them pellets in every stage after 60/90. Those will turn out real nice. You will lose some size but that is to be expected.

Skipping the pellets in the first stage is SOP. I've got some obsidian running now & have had good results in the past.

Kim, good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I'm gonna take pics from the second I put them in the barrel till they are done well minus the actual tumbling of course I have another pound of the tears coming with a surprise gift from my boss...another pound of amethyst and a lortone 1.5 tumbler those should be here Friday. Cher, did you use borax in your tears? Pellets in all stages? I wrote down the recipe you gave on your photo page of your tears....please advise...I want to do them right

Oh your going to love tumbling those! I have about two quarts of tears tumbled, most shaped up fairly fast in the 60/90 (fast in rock tumbling terms).
There was always a few stubborn ones with dents that take a bit longer and I'd get so annoyed with those I'd put them in the 15 pound tumbler with the other rocks and let the harder rocks grind at them a bit better. No fracturing or breaking. So I really didn't baby them in the first stage.
I've never used pellets in the 60/90, I know some people do. I did in the later stages. I did handle them with a bit more care when recharging, transfering and cleaning them.
