Kudos for mentioning lathe safety - no gloves, use safety glasses. Be mindful of the chuck. It can hurt you, and it won't even slow down. Long sleeves and hair get caught. A machinist friend was hurt by the T-shaped chuck wrench. Had his hand on the wrench while trying to turn the chuck a little. Lathe brake was engaged, and he moved the brake handle right through neutral into start. Wrench shattered his fingers on the ways and nearly amputated them. Sorry for being so graphic. Safety first!
