A lot of the examples visible in the photos look like a chert. The beige/white base rock blending into the black and reds resemble oxidation and or different quality of the stone. That material should tumble well, probably has sharp edges when broken, and will give a delightful range of shapes and colors when properly prepared and tumbled. To my eye it looks a lot like Pedernal Chert from New Mexico. Google that name if you want to see if it strikes you the same. When I collect in a locale with similar material I often walk roadsides to get the material kicked up and broken by the road graders. It often is broken into tumbler sized pieces and is easily accessible. Enjoy!

I know it's a long shot, but has anyone tried tumbling rocks from Agate Hill in Utah? I wouldn't call it a long shot. I have about half a ton of Agate Hill sitting in my garage. Pretty much all of it tumbles/polishes nicely. My friend that mines Agate Hill regularly has a tendency to throw in random agates/jaspers in the boxes he sends me: so I can't be certain which agates are specifically from the Hill. I do have some nice pink/light purple agate from there that he said that no one seems to mine/collect (for whatever reason)...more for me! (picture of a piece in the center below)

Only have the one slab. This is a pendant my younger daughter is making for her big sister. It is wet because I hosed off the grit and took a quick cellphone pic. Only been in the vibe for less than 24 hours so it's got a ways to go but looks promising.
