Just getting started in working rocks. I have a softball sized coarse limestone piece with a couple of nice solitary rugose horn coral I'd like to extract. The tools I have available are a Dremel with a flex-shaft with cutting disks, and a 4" angle grinder with a brand new continuous rim diamond blade.
My plan is to try to cut as much matrix away as I can, and then clean up the specimens. Other than using water and a mask (no silicosis for me, thank you), what would be the best option?

That's a good question Bill! Maybe fossilman has some suggestions on removing a fossil from a matrix...

hammer and chisel and careful precise hits. The limestone will chip away well and you should be able to extract the coral intact.
