This is probably a horrible recommendation but when I first started out fiddling around with wrapping with copper my first roll of wire was from Home Depot. Search for "bare copper wire." After gaining a small bit of confidence (emphasize SMALL) I upgraded to my local Michaels store, then quickly switched to Rio Vista from there on out for more specialty wires like half round ... softness, etc.
