jasoninsdIām very interested in your slant cabber and how you have it set up. Specifically and especially the cushioning under the plates for the finer bits.

I messed my phone up yesterday, but as soon as I get it back to working order (hopefully today) I'll post pics of my setup and try to explain as best I can.

Okay...I just got back from the cell phone repair store...and found out I totally jacked my phone and there's no repairing it. So, I will update this as soon as I get a new phone. Arghhhhh!

knaveEvan, Here's the way I have my slant cabber setup. I actually stand behind it, and work a cab from there. This way I can look directly down on the cab and see the angle it's being worked against the surface of the cabber. I put up a magnifying light and look through that when I'm working the cab. It let's me see a LOT better since in the last year I've noticed I need reading glasses quite frequently. I think it would help tremendously whether someone needs glasses or not. The second picture shows the 500 grit disk with the sponge pad underneath. All of my "soft" disks have that sponge backing... If you've got some specific questions, I'll do my best to answer anything I know.

Is the sponge backing readily available or do you have to dig?

And, thank you! I really like the idea of working from the back side.

Is the sponge backing readily available or do you have to dig? They're readily available. I know Kingsley North and The Rock Shed both supply them. They're pretty cheap. And, thank you! I really like the idea of working from the back side. It made a world of difference to me.... It is the 8". I thought if I needed to face polish something, it would give me a little more space to work it. However, you have to stand there and hold it since it's on a slant...not the best use of time! LOL

Thanks again. I need to get something flat like that anyways for flattening backs.

knaveI would imagine in your line of work you have motors readily available. Building a flat lap is fairly simple, and I'm confident you will be able to do it. Check the DIY section for instructions, and save yourself a boatload of money š
