Those are both beautiful! The colors in the second one are intriguing.

That brecciated is way cool. Love the color.

Thanks everyone. Here's one of the before shots of one of the slices. Broke in to about 4 pieces during the "drop on the desk" test. I knew that dark line was a weak spot but was surprised on some of the other break points.

OMG! First, I need to say what a fantastic job you did on those cabs! They look fantastic! Second, those materials are insane! Do you have ANY clue what material that second one is? I love the color tones of the first one, but the "busy" pattern in that second one has me drooling insanely!

The second one was in a box labeled "leopard skin Jasper" at the rock shop I got it at. They're a little sparse on details...

You did a great job on them both, but the leopardskin jasper is really a rhyolite. Looks like you got a great polish.

Dang...now that you say that, I can see it's Leopard Skin...but the shine you got on that threw me for a loop I think. Truly gorgeous!

Very fine polish on that orbicular rhyolite. That material can be a tough one to get a good shine on.

agatewhisperer Nice job on both of those, but the brecciated jasper is really something special. Did you get a name or location for that material? I've got some brecciated jasper from South Africa that is similar, but not as nice as yours.

I've got some brecciated jasper from South Africa that is similar, but not as nice as yours. I got it from the nearest rock shop in a bin simply labeled "brecciated jasper.". They were a bit sparse on the details... I'll ask the next time I head in. The others from the slab dopped so might be able to get another one done this weekend and post it.

If you do remember to ask about a location I would appreciate it. I will snap a photo of the South Africa jasper that is similar, and we can compare.

Brecciated should be spelled breakiated. Mother nature made it by breaking at and then gluing it back together. The areas to avoid are those that are not completely healed but there are always surprises

Couldn't see it much in the picture but I had some scratches on the dome so I went over it once more. Looking better now.. Also cut another smaller one!
