Hi, I’m stuckinohio and I’m new here. i’m completely new to this hobby. I find I am learning so much from this site so far!
I’ve always been a nature buff but just recently became fascinated with lapidary activities after a trip to Big Sur last month. I befriended some Jade hunters and accompanied them on some Jade hunting missions at Jade Cove. It completely rocked my world (pun intended).
now that I’m back in Ohio again, I am researching the basics of polishing, tumbling, and shaping the beautiful rocks I found on my trip. In the middle of a pretty awful period of my life due to pandemic isolation and OCD/depression, exploring this new hobby has definitely brightened my spirits.
thanks all!

Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! I just had the opportunity to cut some Big Sur Jade last week for the first time. Interesting material. I haven't worked any of it yet (I like to make cabochons probably a little more than tumbling...although I do both), so I don't know how it's going to like me trying to shape it. I will also put my plug in for Ohio Flint! Nether's Farm has some amazing flint...it tumbles amazingly well, has a huge amount of variety to it...and just looks "spectacular"! The nice thing about Nether's Farm, you can either "mine" the flint, or you can surface hound the pieces right off the ground!

Welcome from AZ I was in Ohio once, for about 7 hours buying equipment in Akron, in February. Nethers is a place I too would love to visit.
