Earlier this summer Ali and I happened upon a few chunks of surfite. Tonight I decided to hack off a piece and give it a go. Not perfect but for a practice piece it turned out alright. Thanks for looking 👍

Nate, that looks really cool! How did you think it worked? What material would you compare the workability to...agate? (Please don't say obsidian! LOL)

Thanks everyone. LoL Jason, it is similar to obsidian in the fact I started on the 220 wheel. I think that's where it ends. The surfite is overflowed resin/epoxy/whatever that they make sure boards with so it's basically plastic. It actually works very easily, I shaped it on 200 hard, went to 600 soft, then buffed it on a cotton buff with blue compound. hummingbirdstones jasoninsd rockjunquie

Okay...then it stays on my "to get" list...because I was getting ready to cross that one off the list if it was going to work like obsidian! LOL

Well Beth fernwood this is resin and fordite is paint. The surfite has some clear areas. I haven't worked fordite but I don't think there's any clear in it.

I saw some of this for the first time at a rock show last weekend, and was told only that it's "really soft." Thanks for more details it's curious stuff.
