It all makes sense; you have thought and fought it through and are doing what works for you. My old homemade saw has some carriage slack and if I'm careful about a special rock, I make sure to pull the carriage/vice into the position it will slip to once it has pressure against the rock. Again, seems to work so what the hey? Continue cutting.

Peruano It sounds like you understand precisely the issue with carriage slip, which can be exacerbated by oblique angles, slightly cupped blades, and rocks nearly half the height of the blade's diameter. I readjusted everything yesterday to very tight tolerances, which gave me the courage to get back to these large RIJ nodules. I took a few more cuts off one of the nodules I posted previously in this thread. The orbs keep getting bigger, but the pattern is almost identical. I now have 6 or 7 like this. Too nice too cut up and cab, but maybe not quite nice enough to face polish and display. Two inches of rock left to slab. I am hoping for an orb explosion at the end. First cut Orbs a little bigger A little bitter still I've seen a lot of rocks, and these are among those whose genesis is most difficult to comprehend.

Sometimes you just have to give it your best and go for it. Congratulations on spectacular slabs.
