For you cabbers that have worked with Eudialyte:
I have a rock which I think is Eudialyte. I have taken it down to 8000 and it has not taken a polish but has an odd surface texture. Very soft which is why I think it is Eudialyte.
Any suggestions on polishing technique?
TIA

I haven't cabbed any, but the cabs that I have bought almost seemed to have a coating they are so uniformly super glossy. Considering that they were native cut, I think that's a possibility.

I have some here, but haven't cabbed any yet. I think Vince may have messed around with a piece a few years ago, but he can't remember if he ever even finished it. It wasn't the best quality.
If I were going to polish it, I'd probably go with a felt lap and 50,000 diamond with extender fluid very slowly and lightly on the flat lap.

This is one that Vince cut. He says he thinks he used the Eastwind discs on the flat lap to polish it. Very light pressure.

rmf - Did you finish your cab on a wheeled machine? For materials like this I do like the Eastwind resin discs at a lower RPM on the flat lap.
The Eastwinds are smoother than some other brands, and the lower RPM lets me use even less pressure than usual for finicky stones.

@hummingbirdstones2 I used a 8: vertical wheel with a 8000 fiber belt and lite pressure. Also tried Tin& Al2O3 on felt. Not as good as diamond. Not sure of wheel, I bought from Kingsley North on a sale and used for testing one worked one did not. This one had a fabric belt with 8000 diamond. Works real good on Lapis, Petoskey Stones, Rhodochrosite ...
Thanks for the info.
