What is the going rate for a used 33B? Someone I know is selling one with a few baggies of grits/polishes, plastic and steel media.
One barrel lid is missing the nut.
They say it was used once and looks to be in good shape. They are asking $200.00, which seems high to me. The Rock Shed has the tumbler listed for $160.00.
Thanks

Rock shed had those in for about 130.00 I believe (just looked, ugh they sold out again, apparently in a matter of days). KN slightly more expensive but no surprise there.
I bought a used one locally from the lapidary shop for 75.00. Ebayers have these set at extraordinarily high prices, the reason for which is probably short supply and people needing hobbies throughout covid.
Hope that helps.

I ended up trading a box of rocks and $100.00 for it. One of the boots needs replacing, in addition to the missing nut. Overall it looks in excellent condition. Seller plugged it in for me. I will check the belt tension before using, but the belt appears fine.

I know it’s a mute point for you as you already made the deal (congrats!) but maybe this can help someone else out. I have bought a lot of used woodworking equipment over the years (a lot easier to find than used lapidary equipment in these parts) and I have a few rules I follow. -Price starts at half of what new costs. This may be adjusted slightly based on exceptional condition (good or bad). Also, can I find this equipment new? I have bought older cast iron equipment that is just not that easy to find anymore and was willing to stretch my rule to get it. -Not to be negative but the sellers word means nothing, very few people are going to be up front about any issues or tell you honestly how the equipment was used. Can’t tell you how many times I heard “...and it was hardly ever used”. Have even heard this about machinery clearly used in a production setting. How can it need a new boot gasket if this was only used once? -Any freebies are usually worth what you pay for them. In your case the only thing I would use is any coarse grit, maybe the media in coarser stages. Unless the bags/containers were sealed from the seller any polish/finer grits would be thrown out as I have no idea how meticulous the previous owner was (did they dip their tablespoon into the 60/90 SiC and then dip it into the polish without wiping it off?). Please do not take this as a criticism of you or this deal as it is not meant to be. I have been burned exactly one time in my equipment deals by a freebie thrown in. A seller offered to give me quite a bit of really nice rough milled maple boards to sweeten deal. While I didn’t inspect many of them as I spent a fair time going over the equipment I did look at some of them and they were pretty nice. I agreed on a price that was higher than I would normally go due to the bonus materials. To fast forward, most of it was either severely water stained or had insect damage. Wised me up really quick . Caveat Emptor.

Rockindad Good advice. All of the grits/polishes seem to be in good shape. Sealed bags. I hope to set the tumbler up later today and try it out. Thankfully, I have a spare boot and some nuts. The way I look at it, is that the purchase saved me shipping and then some. I had plenty of WI Moonstone and Copper to trade. One question I have is what does the NR stand for after the 33B? Also the Gem Sparkle wording? There was some slightly used steel media. It looks exactly like the Lortone metal jewelry polishing blend. What I traded. What I received.

Sounds like the way to go. Sometimes we end up with more rock of one type or another that we will never use. Much better to trade it than stack it in the back yard. I have evaluated a few estates where you just shake you head and wonder why someone had more rough rock than anyone could use in three lifetimes.

Tumbler is running great.
I have one barrel of WI Moonstone and one barrel of misc., harder rocks. Excited to see what happens with the WI Moonstone.

Glad you are up and running already! I believe "NR" is just an old Lortone designation as their older equivalent of the QT-66 also had the same label. I believe the main difference is that the newer models have a fan. As to "Gem Sparkle" I am not sure, though I know they used to market a jewelry tumbler so that may be it.

I believe "gem sparkle" showed up on the older models. Not too sure about the nr part though. I love my 33b good luck with yours!
