I found this and a Covington ten inch trim saw on a (fairly) local Craigslist search. What would be a fair price for it and what machine is it? I will post the price in a second. flic.kr/p/2mtYM8V

700 for both the Covington ten inch (ancient) and this. Would only be interested in the 8 inch grinder depending on how much whomever is selling them is willing to negotiate.

I'm no authority, but I have 2 of these grinding units. Mine are from Lortone, models SA-8 I believe. One I got from an online auction for about $100. It came with a motor and 2 expanding drums (without belts). The other was given to me, but needed a motor and wheels.
Yours seems to have an expanding drum on the left and 2 wheels on the right. If the belts and wheels are in good shape, that adds value, as would a motor. Also depends on where you are located. Are you are somewhere where people are selling a grinder every week, or like where I am where a grinder comes up for sale once a year at best.
Hopefully someone else can give you a better idea, but I'd think if the wheels are good then 200 to 300 would be a good deal. Before you buy try listening to it run to see if the bearings are good.

Thank you for your response. It does come with a motor and a couple belts. I will think about it and try to find it in budget to maybe purchase it. My area doesn't come up with a ton of lapidary stuff. The most I've seen at one place was at our rock club sale and I spent my budget on a mini sonic 😂

If the drum on the left is a lever lock I would want to replace it with a rubber expanding drum, and if the wheel on the right is silicon carbide I would want to replace that with a diamond wheel. If the unit has a working motor and the bearings are in good shape, I agree 200-300 would be a fair deal. Worst case scenario the motor, wheels, and bearings need to be replaced. If that were the situation I’d probably still mess with it for less than 100. Ok. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I believe they are both expanding drums. The listing says that it runs fine. I might drag my feet and see if it drops in price.
