Jean.....rain, not drizzle, got here an hour ago..........you should be catching some by now since wind is dictating....don't expect much though, just lower temps than what we normally get this time of year.......smile face guy will stat complaining when he's freezing his ass off while we are enjoying 70's......lol Joe, it's almost 5pm, and just starting to get some drizzle. It's not much, but it's beginning to drip off the edge of the patio roof. Watching the news again for the weather, it's wet and raining in San Diego now. Glad I don't need to be out on the road now! Definitely will be colder tonight. 66 degrees out there now.

stephan - That was a killer vid! (Pun partly intended since it's Halloween! LOL). I loved it when the pumpkin started lip syncing! I love it when houses do the light shows like this. Mostly I see it for Christmas...

wpotterw - Fantastic addition to the challenge this month! And great story! I love seeing houses that go all-out when it comes to Halloween or Christmas...that way I can admire it without having to do it myself! LOL stephan : Exactly! And here's the ultimate Halloween House. It might be worth a drive. It's only about 1.5 hours from here. I had forgotten how much a like old Metallica -- as in the mid-80s records: Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All. That was my bread and butter playlist material in the early 90s. Or should I say -- I nearly wore out the cassettes.

holajonathan I still like newer Metallica as well as the older. I've seen them with every bassist, and the "Hardwired" tour was amazing. I also met them after a Primus show in the late 80s. ETA: That is not to say I like every album -- "St. Anger" I can mostly do without. My favorite is "S&M" -- their concerts with the SF Symphony.

I shouldn't cut them off in the 80s, however. Self-titled (1990, I think?) is another classic, and Load (mid-90s?) is as good as any of their previous albums. By the 2000s, however, my eclectic musical interests -- which always included everything from progressive metal (Dream Theatre) to classical (Rachmaninov) -- were focused intensely on folk music played by technically skilled musicians, if that is a genre:

Chris Thile is amazing. I miss his show, “Live From Here.” For Americana/roots music, here is one of my favorite live bands: If you like prog metal in the vein of DT, check out Porcupine Tree — best described as Tool with an even heavier Pink Floyd influence.

I hate to interrupt a great hijack but I actually finished my cabochon for the contest This is the Great Pumpkin cabochon... actually it's not a very great pumpkin shaped cab from a symmetrical standpoint but it DOES fit the original contest parameters of 4:3:1 fairly close and I think I should get extra credit for that ... j/k but I what I would like to get back is my fingertips skin but I guess it will grow back in time Edited to add: I really don't have any specific Halloween memories from childhood - the only memory that even comes to mind at all is from 2014 on Halloween day I was cutting rocks and I loaded up a promising rock that we brought back from Germany a few weeks earlier and these two ghostly apparitions appeared... I'm not a sentimental collector of "stuff" and it goes against my typical nature, but I have them on display in my garage ... I see them every day, always watching me with those goofy grins on their ghostly faces. I know that I can never sell them or cut them, and they will haunt me in a good way until the day I die.

I hate to interrupt a great hijack but I actually finished my cabochon for the contest Given that the thread is on page 7 and there's only been 2 or 3 submissions, perhaps your post is the hijack.

Fall colors towards the top with a stormy night sky at the bottom. Biggs opal? Biggs banded jasper? Biggs that I cut in the wrong direction? Who knows. Upon further investigation, I am almost sure that this is Wascoite jasper from near Biggs Junction. Got it from Tony ( catmandewe ). My favorite Halloween memory: In lieu of candy, a dentist in my home town would give trick-or-treaters a toothbrush and his business card. I resented this as a child. I now respect his business savvy.

You made a tiny pumpkin cabochon. The Halloween memory is the easy part.

I tried to incorporate some scary Halloween cookies into my photos for the benefit of jasoninsd , but I couldn't get a decent photo outside in the mid-day sun. By the time I moved everything indoors, I had eaten all the cookies.

Tommy - That is an amazing little pumpkin cab - and I do see a scary pumpkin face down at the bottom! - I think you would have gotten extra points for keeping the original 4:3:1 ratio...but you lost them when you tried to get out of adding your favorite Halloween memory - so it's just a wash! LOL - I will say I do LOVE those two ghostly slabs you have constantly staring and grinning at you! holajonathan - That cab is outrageous! Gorgeous entry! I will say, while "nice" of the dentist, if you think about it his "best" move would've been to be handing out HANDFULLS of candy just to ensure more business! LOL - It's a shame those cookies couldn't make it back inside...I hope you still have that dentist's contact information! LOL (Oh...and thanks for calling Tommy out on the Halloween story! LOL)

Whoa, I might make a trip to Germany if I cold bring back a suitcase full of those (faces or no faces). Are the agates mined or collected in Germany? What are they called? Never mind, I read your 2014 thread.
