Here's a batch that finished a week ago - Mexican lace and pet wood from the Rock Shed, and green jasper from Rockyracoon. 60/90 2-7 weeks, 2-4 weeks on the jasper 120/220 7 days 500 5 days w/pellets 1000 7 days w/pellets tin oxide 7 days w/pellets no borax used, no wash in barrels The green jasper didn't come out too well. After 60/90 I put it in with the lace and pet wood, and I think those harder rocks wore down the matrix in the jasper, so it didn't take a good shine. I still have more of it to finish, but it won't be in a mixed batch. Thanks for taking the time, Rich

Sorry the green jasper didn't turn out too well. Did you say there was petrified wood in that batch? ? I couldn't seem to take my eyes off the gator skin jasper. LOL gaetz

beautiful batch rich! dang rich that green jasper was looking good until you zoomed in on it . rich bought a piece to cut when he got his saw but didn't know if he could wait so i busted him up some to try in the tumbler. i've only cabbed it and banjo has cabbed it. it slabs and cabs great. do we take it this means it should only be cabbed and not tumbled or do y'all think there is a way to tumble it without it undercutting? kim

I love the petterns in the green Jasper even though it didn't turn out too well. Think I'll get me some of those one day.
Great looking batch over all Rich!

we need ron to assess this. he had some really good advice on the leopardskin jasper undercutting in the tumbler. of course by the time he gave it, mine were too far gone and such a disappointment. i swore them off after that but kd keeps putting these gorgeous leopardskin cab pics up and she seems to be getting no undercutting and a super shine (and i'm not sure i've seen anyone else get that shine on it). the turritella is another one that does that undercutting in the tumbler but cabs great.

Hey Kim, I've had this problem as well. This is probably one of the very few place I know of where chromium oxide may be the best choice, green mess and all. This is also something that is usually best handled in a vibratory tumbler. You just have to be very, very careful and check it very often. You want to pull the rock when the harder material is polished but before the softer material is gouged out. You'll probably be a lot more happy with the rock if you just cab and hand polish. Rhyolite is another common rock that can suffer from the same problem.

Nice shape and shine. The wood does look like tigereye.

Ed and Randy - There were a couple of pieces of tiger eye in that batch.
Kim - I checked out those links you posted, will do more cruising at work (DSL). I didn't notice any problem with the green jasper until it came out of 1000. I added it to the lace and wood after 60/90. It was fine, still smooth, after 120/220 and 500. So it got roughed up in 1000 and polish.

ok rich that's exactly what my leopardskin did. it was just clicking along fine until pre-polish. and polish only made it worse. wonder if you could run the 120/220 a little longer then jump straight to polish? sure couldn't hurt anything to try it. wonder if it was polished in a vibe which is quicker and would give it less exposure? just thinking out loud here lol. ok got to show you one last link i found with the green jasper and check the price! you have to check out some of the others too. i'm not into skulls but the rocks are amazing. now i know what they do with the petalite! www.soul2shine.com/shop/product.php/200/39/kim
