Hello my name is Amber, I'm currently tumbling my very first batch of rocks. They've been at it for a little over 24 hours. Seems to be going OK so far but I honestly don't know what to look for. My tumbler is surprisingly quiet, no leaks thus far, I let out the rock farts just a few minutes ago and it was all very frothy and thick.

Hey Amber! Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! Way to make it through your first 24 hours...only 15,120 left to go! Good job releasing the gas...which is not something I choose to say to most people...at least not publicly! LOL

Welcome to the forum, Amber! Make sure to do some searches in the forums for ideas/tips/advice. A lot of the folks here have been at this hobby for a long time and I've borrowed their advice. Looking forward to seeing your first batch of tumbles! Paul

So I'm doing the second grit now, the Fine one, and I've had a couple of hiccups. I went to let the rock farts out on day 2 and when I opened the lid is was pretty foamy. So I Googled tips for letting the gas out of your rock tumbler and in the many suggestions someone said they used baking soda. So I thought I'd try it and though it immediately takes the foam and makes it liquidy again it doesn't do well when you start tumbling again. So I had to dump everything, rinse it all and I put new water and grit..... now when I went to let the gas out today I noticed that the barrel wasn't bulging out but looked like it was caved innon the bottom. I'm not sure if I'm doing this wrong or right and I'm a bit frustrated today

Welcome from California. Not a tumbler. Many experts here. Look in the tumbling section.
When our first effort wasn’t finished by dinner time, I knew this tumbling thing was not for me!! I AM glad there are many tumblers in the world —- we all like shiny rocks.
