how/why is it I have that Amazon add for the book or Loto come up 4 or 5 times during one run thru of the forum? Once is O.K., but this is getting beyond even what we have to put up with on T.V. nowdays.

What do you mean? I just see it at the top and bottom of each page; don't really notice it too much. I assume it costs money to keep this place going and none of us pay membership fees.

Hi Larry - as noted there are Amazon ads in both the header and footer so when a new page loads they will also load. I selected the items shown in the ads based on relevance to our lapidary hobby but admittedly I haven't updated the content in quite some time. If I can remember how to do it and if work leaves me alone today I will change it up to some different products. FYI - since I haven't said it in a while, we earn a bit of revenue back from Amazon when folks use the link to get to Amazon and make purchases. Before most people started using the Amazon phone app as access method of choice it used to average a revenue stream of about $30 per month. Among other things the money covers the monthly subscription cost of keeping the board "ad free" - which means it keeps Proboards from loading seriously annoying random advertising/tracking banners in the header and footer. BTW, these ads have been there for several years and so far this is the first complaint about it which means it's probably tolerable OR most folks on computers use an ad blocker extension

So if we use the Amazon link when we go to buy something it helps the forum. OK that is easy

I understand all this completely, the ads used to come up once generally, but in the last 2-3 months its been growing like a bad weed. Like I said, 4 to 5 times every run through.

I'm not seeing or experiencing anything differently with regards to the ads. A couple times at the end of the month, I know there has been a couple issues due to something like overusing bandwidth for the month (or something like that)...but everything's per norm for me... Although, I do see the ads have changed...good job Tommy.

Other than what jasoninsd said with the occasional Proboards served ads showing up at the end of the month if we exceed the amount of page views we paid for, nothing else has changed recently. Maybe take a screen shot of what you're seeing so we can make sure we're all on the same page. In any event, I'll try to keep the Amazon ads more freshly updated going forward - nothing worse than having to see stale content every day.

Tommy and knave, yes this is a pop up ad that covers the screen, sometimes for the ocean jasper book and sometimes for the Loto. Yesterday it only came up once, rare. Ads at top and bottom or pop up occasionally don't bother me at all, it's the 4-5 times per run through.

That sounds odd. I don't remember ever seeing a pop-up add on this website; only the banner ads on the top and bottom.

On a cellphone there can be malware that gives you pop up adds I’m not sure are you speaking of mobile or pc.

I have clicked on a thread link here and have been redirected to Proboards. Then needed to use the back arrow to go to main forum and click on the thread again. Sometimes when I click on a thread link, I am re-directed to one of the Amazon items on the upper/lower banners.
I am using a 2021 PC laptop with full pop-up blockers and malware protection. I always have seen the Amazon ads at the top and bottom of screen and they do not bother me.

Hi Larry, there should never be a situation where an ad served by my amazon ads in the header/footer, OR a banner served from Proboards, should pop up and cover your screen. I suspect something is wrong in your computer - maybe malware or something along those lines. If/when it happens again please save a screen shot so we can look at it and see if we can help further. If you're using a computer you can typically capture a screen shot and save it as a .JPG image by using the Print Scrn key, or I personally use the Windows Snipping Tool utility then save it as a .JPG

I'm using a computer not a phone, had six come up last night, five for the grit bags and one for a vibe tumbler. I tried to snipping tool it but it just won't work. If it comes up again I'll try the print screen. Thanks, Larry

Pressing 'PrtScn' saves a screenshot to your 'clipboard', so you will need to paste it somewhere to see (and save) the screenshot. I find that the built in Windows Paint program works well for this purpose.
