I am cutting my way through a few hundred pounds of Mohave area jaspers and agates. This little rock (about 2"x3"x6") didn't look like much from the outside, but I could see enough clear chalcedony poking through to grab my attention. It is some sort of brecciated jasper / agate, with colors unlike anything I've seen from the Mojave area. The blue-green is more turquoise that is appears in the photos, the translucent chalcedony has a purple tint to it, and the breccia really jump out at you, sort of like stone canyon jasper from CA. Cool rock.

I would say "nice little surprise" is a bit of an understatement! That is an amazing piece! I love the fact that it's brecciated...and the color scheme in that one is stellar! I can see you making some amazing looking cabs out of those pieces!

Wow! Those are incredible! I sure hope you find some more like that as you go through the pile.

Wow! Those are incredible! I sure hope you find some more like that as you go through the pile. I hope so too, but with the Mojave area rocks, it's really hard to tell what's inside until you cut them open. The seam agates, in particular, always seem hidden under a layer of matrix. The Lavic area jaspers are an exception. You can usually get a pretty good idea of what's inside before cutting.

I can see you making some amazing looking cabs out of those pieces! It's small, and most slices have one horizontal crack running through the center. If I break them along the fracture, I am going to get a ton of cabs that look almost exactly the same. Not a bad problem to have if the rock ends up being solid. Fingers crossed.
