Wow! That is really impressive. If I tried a Dremel, I would end up with holes in my hands! 😂 I think that’s what inspired jasoninsd to buy the slant crabber. He got tired of smelling his own charred flesh. lol! If I had a Dremel area, the whole area would be in serious danger. And probably all the breakables in the area. Good thing I don't own one!

Sorry for the confusion on my part, jasoninsd. I have both a flat lap (8" Ameritool) that I use all the time (when the urge strikes me, lol), and a used slant cabber that I have never used. Didn't realize the terms were interchangeable. I know miket uses a Dremel, I thought you used to as well? Heavens...I'm the newbie at all this, so I could be dead wrong. My thought was anything that used a flat disk would/could be classified as a "flat lap" as the term "flat" would be referring to the work surface...not necessarily the angle of that work surface. Flat disk...as opposed to curved wheels... Flat lap...as opposed to cabbing machine. Maybe I should stop using flat lap and slant cabber interchangeably. Wow! That is really impressive. If I tried a Dremel, I would end up with holes in my hands! 😂 I think that’s what inspired jasoninsd to buy the slant crabber. He got tired of smelling his own charred flesh. You got that exactly right! LOL I couldn't tell if I was working whale bone or MY bones! LOL

My bad, I think of slant cabbers as flat laps. Sorry to be confusing. You and I are thinking alike... Although both of those are quite different from wheels (Genie, cab king, etc), I've never considered them to be the "same thing." I learned to cab on a flat lap, and it would be like reinventing the wheel to make a cab using wheels aka, on a cabbing machine.

That sounds good to me, Jason jasoninsd . You may call it an angled flat lap. I don't know everything, and don't pretend to. Perhaps I am the one who is full of sh*t? Lol. I am always open to new ideas and new ways of thinking. I am not stuck in a rut!

That’s another great set! I love that golden picture jasper even if it didn’t take a super polish. The good thing about the matte finish is no reflections that distract from the patterns in the rock.
The last group of crazy lace is excellent! The dark areas between the fortifications really set the lighter areas off well.

Very nice work, my friend. I'm picking the flint, too, but they all look great!

Beautiful cabs! The Flint is amazing. I like 8 and 14 best. Thanks Tela! #8 really did turn out super nice! The quartz in this one seemed softer than a lot of other Prairie Agates I've worked, so I wondered if it was going to shine...but it definitely took a nice polish. Those last three cabs all turned out better than I was expecting. I should have taken some before pics...since it was a heel cut, I had no clue with the top was going to end up looking like. That’s another great set! I love that golden picture jasper even if it didn’t take a super polish. The good thing about the matte finish is no reflections that distract from the patterns in the rock. The last group of crazy lace is excellent! The dark areas between the fortifications really set the lighter areas off well. Thanks Brian! I have to say my opinion on "matte" finishes has changed since I started. They used to bug me...but once I realized some material just won't take a shine, it kind of changed my perspective. Very good point with regards to the matte finish allowing a different "view" of the rock itself! Very nice work, my friend. I'm picking the flint, too, but they all look great! Thank you my friend! If I had to pick a favorite, it'd be #10...but there really is something special about Nether's Farm flint! Great cabs jasoninsd . You’re definitely doing some high quality work. Thank you my friend! Now if I can just keep up the pace, I'll knock out those other 1100 preforms in no time! LOL

Love all the cabs, Jason, but number 3 looks special to me. Its patterns appear to fool the eye, or at least my eyes. They make it look like there's a crease across the middle with both the top and bottom having their own higher domes. I'd promote that visual characteristic (if the cab were mine).

I'll second that, Gary. Number 3 is also my fav! Love the stone, and the orientation to the pattern.

Lots of nice stuff going on here, Jason. I'll say more later about the cabs, but for now, just wanted to thank you for posting those Nether's farm cabs and taking my excitement level to 11! I am going to Nether's farm to do some digging with Jugglerguy one week from today!! Since Rob is a youtube phenom, I'm sure the experience will be well documented.

Jason: I really like #1--- reminds me of a desert. Great work! Blue Thanks Blue! I really have a tremendous affinity for any picture jaspers...and I really did like #1 too! They make it look like there's a crease across the middle with both the top and bottom having their own higher domes. I'd promote that visual characteristic (if the cab were mine). Thanks Gary! Okay...now you've piqued my interest...how would you go about promoting that visual characteristic? Love all the cabs, Jason, but number 3 looks special to me. Its patterns appear to fool the eye, or at least my eyes. They make it look like there's a crease across the middle with both the top and bottom having their own higher domes. I'd promote that visual characteristic (if the cab were mine). I'll second that, Gary. Number 3 is also my fav! Love the stone, and the orientation to the pattern. Thanks Jean! This polychrome was a fairly small nodule...so I'd like to take some artistic credit for the orientation...but my choices were limited. LOL Lots of nice stuff going on here, Jason. Okay...I'm SO looking forward to seeing some pics (or videos) of that trip! (You lucky so-and-so! )
