Both. I can use a metal dop I have with glue, but the water still gets my hands too cold. They aren't getting any less stiff. I wonder if you could put a USB powered heating pad under the water trays to keep the water warm? There would be no risk of electrocution with a USB powered model. I've got some little USB heating pads that are small (4"x4" or so) and paper thin, sold for DIY projects. You might be able to glue it to the bottom of the tray with the power cord poking out the back. Maybe I will try this, since I am already getting cold fingers when cabbing, and it's still in the high 60s in my barn. Yeah, I've read a few things people do. I just haven't committed. But, yeah- a room can be pretty comfortable, but for some reason the water seems colder.

I'm thinking keeping a kettle with hot water sitting on the stove on low might be good. Just pour a little into the trays whenever it gets too cold for you.

For whatever reason, I am used to filling the trays with cold water.

I swear I just read a thread a week or two ago about how long others have gone between cabbing sessions. Well I sure am glad you got the encouragement needed to let the genie out the bottle again! Beautiful work !!
