I just got a Hi-Tech flat lap and wanted to know should I put a sponge backing on the 325 grit pad? I used the sponge backing on all of the finer stages. The machine is for cabs and some slabs. Danka.

I put it under all the resin discs. On the 325 I don't think you necessarily have to, but it will help prevent "faceting" on the dome as you're working your stone. If you use it without the pad, you'll likely be spending more time of the 600 smoothing those facets out.

I actually have the sponge pad under my 220 soft disk. It has done WONDERS for smoothing out the minor "facets" that might be left by either of my hard disks...
