Last tumble was about 18 months ago. Hope I can remember recipes ! Check out the rusty home made Vibrasonic vibe hopper. SiC 500 will have that rust removed in an hour. shower cap reduces evaporation Rotary tumbled hand blown glass ready for vibe was tumble shaped in 4-8-16-30 SiC mix. Will do 5 pounds of glass with 3 pounds of reused pea gravel media. Vibe recipe for 5 pounds glass(all pieces under 25 grams) and 3 pounds pre-tumbled quartz pea gravel: 6 tablespoons of sugar in each abrasive step. One tablespoon abrasive each step SiC 500 2 days(or AO 80 for 3 days) Either way, the SiC is quicker for same result but best to do the AO 220 step. AO 220 3 days AO polish 1 day Home made 8 inch HDPE barrels (20 and 12 pound capacity) with double clamped expandable caps work well for tumbling gaseous glass. HPDE resists wear caused by super coarse 4-8-16 SiC well. The large 6 inch rubber caps visibly stretch outward as gas pressure increases. Gives fair warning of potential blow out.

Very thick sugar slurry after 24 hours with SiC 500 is ready to add water to thin slurry. One more day before moving to AO 220.
The Vibrasonic is powerful enough to handle such thick sticky slurries. I have shorter process times with thick sticky slurries which creating higher rubbing forces. Higher polishes too.
Next step is AO 220 for 3 days. Then AO polish for 1 day.

Too Cool Are you still planning to Melt Glass ? James, nice to have you back and look forward to seeing some of your beautiful glass creations. Thanks Victor. Yes Wooferhound. The glass hobby is being moved from a cramped room to a new space. The wife made me add on to the house. To do so I had to spend a fortune on a basement to support the add-on. This space will be the new glass room along with another 200 amp panel to handle the kilns. Moving in process. Hopefully cooking by the time it gets cold so as to heat house . Meantime let's load two 20 pound barrels with glass blower's scrap chunks ! Add-on basement Two 20 pound barrels full of glass blower's chunks. Did not sort them, expecting waste. milk glass mix

You sure that's not a wood chipper? Lol, well Son Of Beach a power comparison could be done with the Lotto. Lotto motor probably 1/20hp/3000rpm to do 4 pounds. The wood chipper is a 3450rpm 1/3hp motor to do 8 pounds but add a 12 pound heavy hopper. So calculations tell 3X more hp per pound but the Vibrasonic is shaking total of 20 pounds verses about 5 pounds for Lotto. No telling what that equates to in complicated vibration analysis outcome but I know the Vibrasonic will maintain action with super sticky slurry which IMO would be the success in finishing soft materials without frosting them. Unlike a donut hopper with more 3-dim type action the Lotto and Vibrasonic are parallel shaft 2-dim vibration for the most part. The Lotto may have the shaft weights 180 degrees opposed left/right which would certainly be 3-dim vibration input. Plenty of RTH members have polished glass with a donut hopper vibe. The UV's for instance. Please forgive for the rant but vibes excite me lol.

No Mexican jumping beans during pre-polish and polish. Sugar slurry thickened to keep tumbles stuck together. I get poor polishes and pre-polish if the tumbles are bouncing on top of the pile.

Good to see you rolling again, James. Smiles are good. Thanks Mike. Thank God moment, pulled the right one out of polish after 5 hours and looks on it's way ! Another 20 hours and it should shine ! The one on left is matte after a 3 day AO 220 step. The 220 would have polished the batch if left 2-3 more days. Looks like a success but never know till the end.
