I went to a class yesterday and made this. flic.kr/p/2mEnPbt I went clear to a 50,000 charged diamond belt. I promised I'd give jasoninsd a tag so... Edit: sorry for the bad pics. I think my ancient radio photo bombed me! 😂

Way to go Perk! You got a really nice shape and polish on that one! IMG_20211025_185147815 by Perkins17, on Flickr Okay...I'm going to walk you through how to post your pictures rather than posting a link... 1. Open up your picture link (the one you posted). 2. Look at the bottom of the picture on that page and find the "arrow pointing right" icon...and click that. 3. A popup window will come up and go to the "BBC Code" tab 4. Copy the link for the BBC Code that comes up 5. When you're posting a "reply" or a you're creating your thread (you can't do this in the "Quick Reply" box) you can see a "Preview" tab and a "BBCode" tab at the bottom of the box you're typing in. When you're ready to insert your picture, switch over to the "BBCode" tab and you can paste that BBCode link you copied from FLICKR. 6. Switch the tab back to the "Preview" tab and you should be able to see your picture. 7. You can go back to the BBCode tab and you can look for the size of the picture (look for the "width:100%"). You can adjust that 100% down to whatever size works best. I adjusted your picture to 60% There...that should be as clear as mud! LOL - Once you do it a couple times, it'll come naturally.

Yeah I can do it on a computer. My phone doesn't show the Bb code thing. Stephan helped me with that a while back. I'm too darn lazy to use a computer all the time but I probably should.

You should have seen what the teacher of the class showed us. He had absolutely amazing cabs. Cabbing is a bit of a learning curve but you will get it real fast.

I haven't attempted a circle in many years. I had very little instruction and didn't even know what a cabochon was. The person who taught me was very accomplished and everyone has a different approach. He used a template and kept grinding and checking against the template. I've seen videos of that and it isn't me. Part of the joy is a person figuring it out on their own. Trying different things and checking the results. Being immersed in the work is very helpful. I learned more in the last few years than the previous 15.

When circles go wrong for me, I don't know how to recover so I need to have the shape clearly marked. Subtraction is difficult, addition is impossible. Being able to stay close but not touch the line requires control and a lot of practice. I've had difficult with girdles but have changed my technique so the the girdle line flares out from the bottom so after doming I can grind the top edge parallel to the bottom edge working the edge vertically and the shape of the edges is protected.

I've seen a video of a guy putting the dop into a drill and using it against a diamond plate...creates a perfect circle! LOL
