Complex process for me. First, buying or selling. Selling, look for comparable items and price to be competitive. Buying, first determine If I would be interested working on it. Does it have the attributes that give BB value and I do this looking at cabs one etsy sorted by highest price. This one is a good example and the listing price is about $80. Listing price is not wat the cab will sell for. I then look at the slab and determine the yield. Here is one I bought from Full Moon at facebook. I saw at least two preforms and my purchasing goal is listing price of made cabs is 3 times cost of slab. The next issue was shipping. Cost of a slab is delivered cost and when I can combine shipping I am willing to pay more. This one was with two other items. I paid about $10 for this slab with a multi item discount and combined shipping. It is sitting in a box. My wife was concerned about the toxicity and wanted me to toss it. I'm very particular about the material I buy an the slab you chose wouldn't make it past my first step. Looking at ebay comps, $20 would be a reasonable asking price. www.ebay.com/itm/254589936264?hash=item3b46be2288:g:9CIAAOSwfFRfJTrw

By saying that slab won’t clear step 1, you are saying the material doesn’t interest you. Bumblebee Jasper does interest me. The comparable slab you posted isn’t even close in my opinion. You possibly missed that this slab is 7.5” long and has free shipping. The one you linked is $27 plus shipping. Thanks for taking th time to help me, it is appreciated.
ETA: if it’s not your type of material I will buy your slab for what you paid plus shipping.

I am saying that slab you posted a picture of doesn't interest me, but I am very particular. I have a lot of types of a material I am looking for and when searching rarely get past the first step. For over 15 years, I made cabs and wasn't interested in selling, but I always considered what I made could be sold. Part of the hobby was always searching/shopping for great material. A great slab for me is one that has many great patterns and could care less how the entire slab is. A slab does not need to be bigger than one preform and I hunt for patterns.

It’s interesting. Patterns are important but I look for contrast in color as well as patterns. I’m just saying that $20 shipped for a 7.5” x 5” slab of bumblebee is way too low

If you like it, that's all that matters. I would have said 50-75, too. I see lots of possibilities in that slab. I don't cab it, though. Toxic. Take care.

rockjunquie What is toxic in bb? I know about copper in malachite. I’ve never heard about toxins in bb. I’m more careful with anything green. I’m always glad to be warned ahead of time. Thanks. You rock!

As a buyer, no price is too low unless a person doesn't trust the seller. As a seller, quantity in inventory and replacement cost factor into the selling price. I have to buy all my material. Creation of value can come from slabbing rough. Sellers of self obtained material including those who buy collections can sell for less.

rockjunquie Good to know. Thank you. You’re awesome. Arsenic is bad. It bioaccumulates.

Its always dangerous to ask what would you pay for this. You don't know the size of the respondents wallet, the bias of their taste, the size of the stash of that item that they have, and a myriad of other factors that will influence their decision versus yours. If you like it and the price is right without the kids going without shoes then the price is right. We all know someone who has bought a bargain and someone who has passed on wonderful opportunities. Bumble Bee is pretty - I just stood in a booth at a rock show here in Albuquerque and watched hundreds of people fondle the BB cabs while equally desirable cabs of other materials went less fondled. Its nice and there are a couple of distinct intensities of yellows in the material that influence price and marketability. Hey they're just rocks, but people love them..

I am all about safety, but it can be cut, with appropriate PPE and dust prevention. The arsenic content is in the black if I read rightly. ETA worse than that it’s in the orange/yellow.

If you don’t eat pounds of it, you’ll be ok. Polish wet, and don’t dump the swarf on your tomatoes. Always remember that bioavailability is low if grinding wet.
the ld50 of this form of arsenic is 2400mg/kg, meaning you’d have to eat about 6oz of just the arsenic compound itself, which is a small percentage of bbj. Not all arsenic has the same toxicity (and the same is true for mercury, lead, copper…).
