Okay they were in a Lortone 3A for 4 to 6 weeks at a pretty decent time frame of tumbling 12 hour days, and the grit was whatever polishing compound I last got with a multiple purchase , their just dull with a bit of a waxy glow but nothing blinding, except for afew edges of them are glistening..... does polishing compound have a shelf life or a best before date??? any ideas what else I could try? TIA

really, this is the first time I haven't gotten a sheen, 24 hours a day won't ever happen in my world.

Hi!
First time tumbling (or should I say; first year's tumbling š) can be quite the learning process. Don't give up!
There are many factors that can affect the outcome of your polish: how long you tumble, the kind of rocks you tumble, the quantity of rocks you tumble, the grit/polish you use, etc.
Keep in mind that if you are only tumbling 12 hours a day, you will need to double the typical timeframes (since they are based on 24 hour tumble days).
Here is a good video to help get you started:

dustyfossil Thereās no shelf life on polish. My thoughts are that you may have some grit contamination from earlier batches. Itās super important to clean your tumbles well between stages. Another important thing is to ensure the barrel is roughly 2/3 full. If not there will be some chipping from the tumbling action. I hope that helps. I canāt wait to see some pictures.
