I store and sort small slabs and cabs in old Chinese takeout bins. Just the right size. I just had one that was full. I needed something out of it and reached for it where I would usually put it. It wasn't there. I can NOT find it anywhere. I'm at a total loss for where it is. There was a big chunk of silver in there, too. It's driving me nuts!

Sorry to hear about you misplacement of stuff. It works both ways though. I just found a whole bunch of rocks and other stuff I don’t even remember having while cleaning out my garage. Like a early Christmas for me lol.

Tela, that kind of thing happens to me all the time, lol. Not just not finding something I put away in a safe place, but even as I am in the middle of doing something, I'll set a tool down, then can't find the tool. Argggh! I am sure I am losing it (pun intended, lol). If I don't find it within a reasonable amount of time, I'll go out and buy another tool. Just kidding!! Can't afford to do that. Actually, what I do is, if I can't continue without it, I'll move on to the next unfinished project. By then, the tool will usually turn up somewhere. Oh, there you are! I've been looking all over for you... How did you get in the oven? LOL. Thirty some odd years ago, before buying this house, we lived in a mobilehome. One time, Bob took a chub of pork sausage out of the freezer over the refrigerator, meaning to cut some of it off, put the rest back. Only he didn't get it back in the freezer, he put it into the cabinet over the freezer! Once it started to stink, I found it with my nose.

One time DH was bringing in groceries and didn't realize that a pack of chicken fell out of the bag. He could have sworn he bought it... The weekend passed and he didn't use the car. It was like 90 out. Took a week to get that smell out of the car.
Yeah, I misplace stuff a lot, but not as much as DH. And, my granddaughter, 21, put the milk back in the pantry. So, it ain't just us "old folks".

Running on autopilot, I think we all do that. Spend ages looking for something you know is at the back of the shelf, give up and come back later and notice it was always right in front and you were looking past it. People compliment me on how neat and organised my shed is, it's because I spend ages cleaning up looking for tools or parts that I have put down somewhere. Often a good clean up doesn't locate the said tool either, it will turn up weeks later on top of a post in my garden. What? How did you get there?

LOL I've done similar stuff so many times, that we actually put a few things on the very front edge of our full-size freezer so there's no room for me to put stuff on top and forget about it again! The worst (and last) was an unopened half-gallon of ice cream that melted all down the front of the freezer! It was two days before the mess was discovered.

I find that my ability to put whatever in new and interesting places only improves with age. I’m old enough now to be an expert!! Lol!
… and it is always a happy surprise to run across the wayward item. Hang in there!!

Spend ages looking for something you know is at the back of the shelf, give up and come back later and notice it was always right in front and you were looking past it. Because I can be so forgetful, I am a firm believer in routines, especially at night and first thing in the morning. But, even they can be easily derailed. Last night, as I was going through our dog's "night-night" routine, midway through I slightly changed it up. When I got up this morning, I found that the very slight change had so upset the routine, that I found the morning's dog food still in it's cup in the closet... even though the last part of the routine - putting the dog's morning toy up by her bowl - had been done. I hadn't even noticed that the food cup was missing from inside the bowl, right next to the toy!!!!

I do it all the time! Sometimes I'll be working on something at my bench and put a tool down and 5 minutes later go to pick it back up, and I can't find it. I KNOW it's right there because I just used it, but I don't see it. It drives me nuts when that happens.
I also will start walking into another room to get/do something and halfway there, I can't remember what I was going to do/get. Then I have to go back to where I came from and start walking again. That actually usually makes me remember. Getting old sucks.

As they say, the upside of CRS is that you can hide your own Easter Eggs. hummingbirdstones — it’s even worse when it turns up in the first place that I can swear up and down that I looked. Damn Loki.

The story of misplacing things sounds familiar. Luckily I have a wife that is a super finder.

I always think "it's such an obvious place to store this, I don't need to write it down..." :-)
