I find quite a bit of abandoned drill core when exploring mining areas. I thought it might be fun to slice one to make a preformed round cab. Here is my project:

That's one way to get a perfectly round cab.

Question - why are you using water with diamond paste? It works better with just an extender fluid. Diamond is hydrophobic, but readily accepts hydrocarbons (plated, sintered or resin diamond laps are a different monster because they are bonded to a metal or another material and can't move or wash away).

I shouldn't have used water. Newbie mistake as this is the first time I used diamond paste.

That’s on my agenda.
If you slice the core at an angle, won’t you get perfect ovals?
Thanks for the video.

If you slice the core at an angle, won’t you get perfect ovals? You'll get an oval with a funky girdle that prolly wants some fixin' on both ends. : )

I’ll check it out tomorrow. Sounds easier to slice a circle than to eyeball a steady angle for the oval. Thanks for the warning. parfive

Cut a slab out of a hotdog or a baguette and you'll see the problem.

What the heck? I have no clue how I missed this post greig! I loved the "intro"! That made me laugh! It was nice to see you using the slant cabber! I tried to use mine today like you do...from the front like that, but it was too awkward for me. I stand behind mine and look down on it and do my work at the top of the cabber. I've been doing that since pretty much day one with the machine...and now it feels too weird trying to use it from the front! LOL Dang...now I want a Drumstik! LOL

I will give it a try What Rich was saying about the "angle" on the girdle being off is spot on...however... If you were to use the trim saw and follow the edge of the oval - then flip it over to follow the edge of the other end, you could straighten out the girdle and still maintain the "perfect oval" shape. If that makes sense...
