Thanks Perk! I am SO lucky to be so close. It's only a couple miles down the road from my in-laws farm...and it's on the way back home when I go out hounding at Teepee Canyon. I keep telling my wife there must be something wrong with the steering column on my truck because it always veers off towards Keystone on the way home! LOL When we were picking apples, invariably several would fall while we were trying to pick others...so I kept telling my wife to put the ones that fell and were now "bruised" into the "applesauce bag"! LOL I've only worked some red Tiger Eye...and it didn't go well, so I'm excited to see how these work. They cut like a hot knife through butter on the 10" saw! The red Tiger Eye actually "shredded" while trying to work it. Another member worked some from the same batch and the same thing happened to him while trying to work it. Near as we can figure is it was either heated or cooled too quickly in the heat process. (Total guessing...) Ha! My "applesauce" bag was getting pretty big. I just finally got it going after having a giant bowl of apples on the table for a long time. I'll have to remember that when working with tigers eye. I have a tiny slab that I'll cut up soon to make some cabs out of. I would become great friends with those in-laws if I was you! Lol. Teepee canyon? Sounds like a great with a capital "G" place to live. I really do have a great relationship with my in-laws. In fact, my father-in-law just called me a little bit ago to "tell me" we're going to go down to the Cheyenne River tomorrow for a last minute trip...fishing for him...and rockhounding for me! I have so much fun hounding out here. Fairburn Agate country down on the Cheyenne River (pet wood and other jaspers as well)...Teepee Canyon Agate hounding/mining just outside of Custer...and Prairie Agate (and tons of other materials) just 25 minutes from my driveway out at Railroad Buttes!

Lucky!!!! I'm jealous. I like fishing too so maybe I could get a ride holder like you see at the ocean and Rockhound-fish. Next rockhounding season, I'm going to step up my game. I'm kind of a novice rockhounder so I should probably go on some club digs.

LOL)

I love apple picking just as much as Rock hounding I think. I only did about 30 lb of apples this year though. Made some apple butter and some canned apple pie filling. My apple trees are still too young to produce much so I always end up going to my local U-Pick farm and getting the apples I need. But they're only a 15 minute drive from my house and there's no Rock hounding spots in between.

My wife's family farm is about 20 minutes from our house. They had a dairy farm...but apple trees around the yard. My wife and I don't live "in town"...but it's always nice to go out to the farm and let everything from the outside world go away. (It's the same feeling I get when I go hounding out in the middle of nowhere. )

I freely admit to being a grinch! 🤣🤣
Looks like an excellent day. I’ve got a few rocks on my X-mas list, but I’m crossing my fingers for a cabbing machine! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

My wife has showed me a "better way" to look at them. Yeah...a cabbing machine is on my list too! LOL

Nice early presents.
Glad your wife supports your rock/lapidary addiction.
I would love to have the chance to pick through The Rock Shed's bins. I am still waiting for the chance to go to The Gem Shop's bins, as they are much closer to my place.

Oh, if you have any leftover apples and like pie...
I have a great recipe for Apple Crisp Pie. It was my G-Grandma's.

I don't think my family understands why I like rocks so much lol.

I am still waiting for the chance to go to The Gem Shop's bins, as they are much closer to my place. Thanks Beth! My wife knows if I put my mind to doing something, I'm going to find a way to do come heck or high water! LOL - She is supportive though. She'll go out hounding on occasion...and does put up with the amount of rocks taking over numerous "open" spots in the house. LOL She really does seem to get a thrill from seeing any kind of awesome rock...so that's another plus. We spent an hour and a half looking through the bins...I could have spent another hour or more! LOL - She was really patient and did offer some suggestions for which rocks to get. Oh, if you have any leftover apples and like pie... I have a great recipe for Apple Crisp Pie. It was my G-Grandma's. I will never say no to someone's G-Grandma's recipe...no matter what it is! I'd love to have that if you don't mind... I used to be a really bad Grinch when it came to the holidays. My wife has showed me a "better way" to look at them. Yeah...a cabbing machine is on my list too! The only things I've told anyone who asked what I want for the holidays is rocks or rock related items! LOL

These days I have become an apple bigot. If it is not a Honeycrisp, not interested. By the way nice rocks, but it looks like you opened your present reeeeeeeeeeeeally early. Your wife really knows the way to your heart.

Your wife really knows the way to your heart. Well...I'd guess you'd like these apples...there's a serious debate within the family as to whether these are Honey Crisp or Winesap. All that just tells me these two types of apples taste WAY too similar! LOL Yeah...the presents were opened WAY too early this year! LOL - The "present" for last year was the slant cabber...which was received around mid-November! LOL I will agree...she does know the way to my heart...rocks and apple crisp!

That looks like you had a good day. You got some very nice pieces. One little bit of warning about the sodalite — it can be quite prone to chipping. I do as much shaping as possible on the 220. I don’t like getting closer than 1/8” (1/4” if the wheels are fresh) on a sintered 80. Don’t know how your disks will behave, but I’d be cautious. Other than that, it polishes beautifully.

Thanks Stephan! I really appreciate you letting me know about the Sodalite! When I slabbed that smaller piece, it was very unstable. The slabs shattered almost parallel to the cut...so basically creating shards. The bigger piece cut nicely though. If you hadn't said something about the chipping, I probably wouldn't have been cautious...so thank you so much for letting me know.
