(sung to the tune of "Ebony and Ivory"...)"Sodalite and Malachite Live together as perfect socialites Side by side on my paper plate Oh Lord, why don't we ? We all know that stones are the same wherever you go There's soft and hard in all of them We learn to rock, we learn to roll to give each other What we need to shine Together to shine" (sincere apologies to messrs. Wonder and McCartney)but i just couldn't STOP myself... anyway, here is some TUMBLED malachite along with a batch of sodalite i've been waiting to redo. the first go around, even tho i'd done the extra SISA step after pre polish the sodalite still didn't give up the best shine in CPP. so this time i went back to 600 for 10 days, tossed in the malachite for one day then put them all in Titainium Dioxide for 10 days, burnished for two hours in borax and lots of pellets and.... and a close up of just the sodalite: ok, so i didn't "James" it, but i got darn close for such soft stuff. the malachite i polished on the grinder is still several degrees shinier than the tumbled, and you can see where it was just starting to undercut in the tumbler. but i'm pleased with the batch (hence bursting out in song..) thanks for looking! KD

Ooooooooooo dang KD I think you did spectacular on those. In my opinion, you James'd that sodalite all the way and pretty darn close on the malachite. Those are just awesome!! I need to save my pennies so I can get some of that TO stuff.

KD...beautiful job. You make me want to crack up my sodalite and give it a shot. I've been holding out wanting to slab/cab it...but....now I think I have to tumble a batch just to wrap or just oogle over!
Love the malachite too...haven't tried it yet. Is it alot like sodalite to work with? It looks so much smoother than the sodalite. Just love the colors together too....
Great job!

Oh Wow! I thought malachite was impossible in a tumbler (maybe just almost impossible, eh?). These are amazing KD!!! Must be a joy to know you brought so much out of these treasures

KD, you got a shine on tumble-polished malachite!. What's that, Mohs 3.5-4? I swear you could put a shine on a lump of dirt if you put your mind to it.

It looks like you "James'd it" to me. I still think that tin oxide is they way to go with these.
