Had a batch come out containing mostly slices I made a few months back. Slices I tend to only run 1 week in coarse. Tried some different material, namely Arizona petrified wood and so-called mushroom jasper. Also sliced up a chunk of sodalite, mainly because it is slightly translucent and I wanted to see how thinner pieces would look.
Arizona Pet Wood. Some of these broke and chipped in the process, but tumbled nicely none the less. Good shine.
Mushroom Jasper. This stuff is a little weird, reminds me of kambaba jasper. Some of these scallop areas like to pop out. Not a uniform shine, hardness seems variable. I have a second piece, similar to the one I sliced these out of, that is currently coarse grinding.
Sodalite. Is sodalite, so a bit softer, sheen is there but not high gloss. Orange specks are interesting, cause that's about the same color you get from this with fluorescence. Goooooood enough. I do have another piece going that has a crystal/agate band running through it, and a flat bottom from a saw cut. I'm crossing my fingers it holds together because it seems to be a pretty unique piece - few weeks before that one is done.
Misc pieces that found their way into the barrel. I think that's the last piece of tiger's eye from the saw cuts (cept for the big cutoff) from the big one I did. There's some end cuts from green moss agates, a Botswana agate from knave that's probably been going 2 years now, some of my own agate finds, little pieces of the green aventurine/quartzite from CO, carnelian, AZ pet wood chiplets, rose quartz piece, jaspers.
I have 5 barrels (two 3#, three 1.5#) coming out of polish next week. I think they're mostly river finds. Quartz all summer was boring so I'm burning through the stuff I'm actually interested in now. Two more barrels just started stage 2, so a few more weeks there. I'll be swimming in tumbled rocks before too long, again!
Thanks for looking!
