Hello
I have a large gold in quartz specimen. 4* x 2.5" x 1.5". Am trying to determine how much gold and where it's located inside the specimen.
Where could one go to have it xrayed? Anyone have any ideas? Forget about medical facilities. Don't believe they would do it unless you know someone.

What knave said, or bring it along the next time you visit your family dentist.

If you have a university with a geology dept. near you, you could call them and ask them for suggestions.

If all you want is an estimate of how much gold you have all you need to do is get the specific gravity (density)of the sample. There are several ways to do that at home (see google). The specific gravity of quartz is 2.65 and gold is 19.32. Once you have the specific gravity of your sample that number divided by 19.32 and you have a good aproximation of the percent of the sample that is gold. Most Geology departments will not have that kind of x ray machine. It would a lot of x rays to tell you where the gold was inside the sample.

goldfinger1 Know anyone that's a welder? Depending on where you're at there may be a shop that has an x-ray for welds. (IDK how it works - or if they'd be able to x-ray a rock) but they use it to check welds on race chassis for cracks.
