While working in west Texas, i did a little rock hunten - agate, pet wood/palm, flint, quartz, pyrite. Wish i had my camera, the first place i went looked like a mini grand canyon with red, green and purple walls, oh well maybe next time. Here are some pics of the rocks I brought back. mixed agate and what the hecks would have gotten a lot more of the big agates but had to hike down a not so stable embankment to where they were, fill the backpack and hike back out - one trip was enough for me. Found these in a dry stream bed - looked for the source but couldn't find it. very nice swirls ranging from tan to red These are pet wood/palm - according to the park ranger - the palm in off to the left (wet) dry just pet wood and some quartz thanks for looking will post flint and pyrite in another thread robert

Nice stuff there Robert, some nice swirls and banding. Too bad it was hard to get to but I know what you mean about climging some of those embankments. No sense in making rockhounding dangerous.

Maybe there is something I miss about Texas... I wasn't into the hobby when I lived there. It looks like you hit pay dirt! What fun!

Robert, You done good, son. What is the pinkish-red-tan stuff from the creekbed? Some has bands and some appears to be a conglomerate (of course, I need new glasses). The pet wood looks like fun too. In all, a great haul. Many barrels ahead.

Robert-
Good supply you've got there. That petrified wood really has a lot of variety in them. That should be some fun stuff to work with.

Jim, my territory (I'm in sales) takes me to Lubbock and Amarillo. All the rocks you see up top came from lake Mackenzie, which is about 50 miles south/south east of Amarillo near the ton of Silverton.
