While on a 4 wheeling trip down in the desert this summer, my niece picked this nice piece of agate out of the small stream and handed it to me. I thought it was just another piece of nuthun, but it actually looked pretty good so I kept it. Well it turns out my neice and my daughter are very, very close and my daughter was pretty sad when she got the news that their family would be moving to Grand Junction, Colorado (about 4 hours east of SLC.) Well, when we sawed up a bunch of rocks this summer, my daughter got the idea of getting it polished and she would keep one halve and she would give the other halve to her cousin. I thought it was a great idea and had it polished with the piece of wood. Here is the agate piece. Here they are together: I wanted to wait to see how the first piece turned out before I had them both done. It's not the greatest, most striking piece in the world, but I think the girls will really love them. What's neat about it is all the blues in it. My niece is one of the craziest little rockhounds I've seen. A few weeks ago she came over to our house while visiting and we went thru my whole rock supply and she was very excited by all the cool rocks. Needless to say I think Santy Clause will be making a special delivery to her this Christmas. Gaetz

Gaetz, I think that is something that will be very special to both the girls and it's very pretty. Did Rainey like the way it turned out?

Message to Rainey: I think you came up with a great idea, be sure to get a picture of you and your cousin with the polished rocks when the holidays come around.

Very cool Gaetz. Your daughter seems to fit the description of a rockhound to a tee-always wants more and wants to share what she's got. Sounds like you're gonna be supporting a rock habit 'til she's 18yrs old. I could think of a lot worse though.

That is a great idea. In fact I bet it would be a seller at craft shows, take something like a geode cut it in half, polish the cut edges and call them friendship stones. Tami

Kim-
I couldn't polish these myself. They are about the size of a softball so I took I had the same shop that polished my petrified wood slab do this one too. He's moving his shop and I will have the other piece done when he's moved in. I'll show you the results when it's done.
Glad you like it.
Tami-
You have a great idea there. I think you're onto something.

How wonderful is that that your daughter cares for her cousin so much? Family is what its all about. I hope 75 years from now they will hand down their friendship rocks to their family Ok gotta go wipe my eyeballs, seems they are leaking.

Soo cool- My Daughter and her Cousin are sooo close- they only see each other 1 or 2 times a year but write to each other a lot- and talk on the phone with each other- I love the idea of a friendship rock-
