Really nice set of cabs @jadedvision . My favorites are the second to last Brazilian and the sonoran flame agate.

Dangit! I have to clean the drool off my keyboard now! LOL That Brenda Agate is gorgeous! The way you captured the flames in that Sonoran Flame was perfect. The shape makes it look like a campfire... And those Brazilians are superb...but that last one is off-the-charts!

Beautiful cabs! You did an amazing job on that rectangle. It looks perfect.
Your GYP has pink, so that makes it Regency Rose.

Thanks catskillrocks, that Brazilian is one of my favorites as well. jasoninsd that flame shape was a nice little save, started as a triangle. Thanks! hummingbirdstones thank you! That rectangle might be my favorite of the batch. The graveyard point is old stock, back when they just called it all gp. Thanks lunker, I have it narrowed down to ten lol! I’ll put up some better photos with good daylight, these were taken just before sunset. Heck of a save. I looked at it trying to picture the triangle, and I think the rounded off triangle really adds to the "scene" of it being a campfire (to me).

Wow, that's a busy weekend of cabbing hard agates.
The Regency Rose, Brenda agate, and the last Brazilian stand out to me, as does your ability to cab moss and plume agates without undercutting the moss and plumes.
You and I might be the only ones on this forum crazy enough to regularly cab Brazilian agates. It is one of my favorite cabbing materials: few fractures, good patterns, interesting colors, and they polish up like glass. The only downside is that they are so darn hard.

Put up some photos in better daylight. What a difference taking the pics in the daylight... This one is the bees knees!

What a difference taking the pics in the daylight... This one is the bees knees! Thanks! It was impossible for me not to orient that crazy black hole pattern somewhere in the center of the cab. I drew a horizontal oval with that spot on the center top edge, then bisected the center of the oval with a perpendicular line that split the black spot in half vertically. The outer sides of the cab were a large circle radius extending from the widest point of the oval to a point on the line that I was happy with, if that makes any sense lol! I’m thinking the shape looks like an acorn. Now that you've pointed out how you came up with the outline, I can see it perfectly! I really need to start doing this kind of outline, versus the constant stencil patterns I rely on. Of course, I have to get through the 1200 preforms I already have cut first! LOL

jasoninsd you don’t have to go through them all, I’ve recut or given up on more cabs than I’ve cut at this point. Sometimes I'm a slow learner...or slow to admit things is probably a better description. I cut 96 Teepee Canyon Agate preforms. As I look through what's left - somewhere around 40 or 50, I'm noticing there are fewer and fewer that are "calling me" to do. Not that the remaining ones are "bad" by any means...they're just not special. I have also started to discard cabs if they're beyond fixing. I have a ton of Mexican Lace (Crazy Lace and Laguna Lace) that is highly fractured. Some of them work...while others just turn out looking like garbage. I usually make the decision on those after the initial grind...

As soon as I got a slab, I would cut it up into preforms with templates. I had several preforms that were the pick of the slab and the rest were... well... not up to snuff. I gave some away and sold some. But on a few I was able to cut a decent cab by NOT playing in the lines. Now, I only preform the few really nice cabs in slab. Then it sits and waits for it to inspire me again. That's been working really well. Like you, I had to work through a lot of preforms before I could cut up some more. Luckily, most were better quality, but I can't wait to cut up some more- probably in the Spring.
