I'm 99 percent sure you stole number 4 from my bedside table! flic.kr/p/2mPBxBH Awesome cabs. I'm actually not a big fan of cabbing the stuff myself though, it seems pron to fractures, scratches, and undercutting. Might be the user, not the material.. 😏

Holy sh…. Those are amazing, my friend. The live edge is perfect, but the rest ain’t no slouches. The maroon plumes are amazing. Thanks Stephan! That first one was a very fragile rock. It was difficult to get many solid preforms out of it, so I'm glad that one held together. The second one, my wife picked out (before it was done) to give to her (our) granddaughter for Christmas. Our granddaughter was picking through my saw scraps to put in a terrarium and ran across a piece of GYPPA. She loved it, but didn't know I had some ready to cab...so, it'll be wrapped here shortly. I noticed I curled the edges of the live edge in just a bit...but I still love it! There's something about live edges that I really like...hmmm...there might be something about that in the near future. The maroon plumes are really cool because I don't think GYPPA is really known for those colors...but I think my favorite out of the bunch is this one:

I'll put it back on the bedside table shortly! LOL Thanks Perk! It might have been the source of material you had. I know it can be graded (as most rough can be), so maybe you just got a bad batch. That being said, I had a TON of material that I had to be extremely picky to get some preforms out of it. A lot of times I'd have a 2"x5" slab and I'd only be able to get two "useable" preforms out of the entire slab...

Holy cow jasoninsd. Your cabs are killing me. They’re awesome. You should take a whack at that man made star sapphire. I didn’t saw it very straight. You can grind a pretty flat dome on it. The star will show at 600 or 1200. Grind the back to center the star. It should make a nice 12mm cab. If you feel gutsy, do an oval with two of the legs on the long axis of the oval. I would love to see that stuff show it’s potential. I have more.

Wonderful cabs from a material I love. PM me if you would like some more of it. I have several large cutters purchased from a member here.

Those are jaw dropping. I'm not even going to play favorites- they all represent the material well and you did a bang up job cutting them.

I’ve gotta say you have really stepped up your game in a few ways. The cabber is certainly working well for you because the polish you are getting is phenomenal!
Your photography has also improved as well. Your latest batch of photos are very sharp and you seem to have nailed how to take great shots of your cabs.
I’m loving that live edge!

Yours looks amazing.

Beautiful cabs once again Jason.
Thank you for the shout out, I'm glad I was able to help your process in a small way.

Nice cabs. There is a variety of graveyard called regency rose that has pinks and maroons in it. Do a google image search on "regency rose graveyard point" This is one of my regency cabs as an example. Just noticed I took this picture in 2015. Time sure flies. miketEdit: Just came across these pictures from the same rough rock as the full wrap above. This is the only groove wrap I have ever done in 14K gold filled wire. Probably a better example of the pink/reds. Chuck

Gorgeous cabs, Jason! And Chuck is right, you should get your hands on some Regency Rose. I've "cabbed" a few pieces and it is really nice stuff...

I would love to see that stuff show it’s potential. I have more. Thanks Brent! I definitely will do something with the star sapphire in the not too distant future. My father-in-law found out I have some and wants me to do one so he can have it set in a Black Hills Gold Ring he has... Wonderful cabs from a material I love. PM me if you would like some more of it. I have several large cutters purchased from a member here. Thanks Beth! I really do love the looks of this material...very much! Check your messages, I'll send one here shortly. Those are jaw dropping. I'm not even going to play favorites- they all represent the material well and you did a bang up job cutting them. Thanks Tela! They're just like kids...you don't want to pick a favorite...but sometimes one stands out more than the others...and sometimes not! LOL Thanks Ali! I really do love the looks of this when you get a good piece where the plumes really stand out. Thanks Brian! Without exception, I'm getting FAR better results with the new cabbing machine. As far as the photography...maybe it's just better subjects! LOL - Same phone camera, but maybe it's the partial white background...which I kind of like the looks of that way... Well it didn't take you long to up your game on that new machine, did it?
Man oh man, Jason, they are all amazing! My favorite is your favorite. I love Regency Rose.
Thanks Robin! I really was nervous about switching techniques...but you're right...I did kind of pick up on it quicker than I thought I would. It's fun figuring out how differently the wheel affects the cut when placed at different positions on the wheel as well as the different angles. On one of these I even experimented with not doing the multiple angle cuts to achieve the dome. I just rolled the cab during the initial grind...it worked out really well, but I don't know if I want to do that every time...just when the confidence level is up on a certain day! LOL Dang! You caught me! I'm busted! I'll put it back on the bedside table shortly! LOL Thanks Perk! It might have been the source of material you had. I know it can be graded (as most rough can be), so maybe you just got a bad batch. That being said, I had a TON of material that I had to be extremely picky to get some preforms out of it. Yours looks amazing. Again, thanks Perk! I do think it's fun to pick out the can location in slabs. It's like a puzzle sometimes...which shape fits the "opening" in the available slab. Beautiful cabs once again Jason. Thank you for the shout out, I'm glad I was able to help your process in a small way. Thanks Nate! I seriously can't thank you enough on that. I know it seems like a simple thing...but it's made a world of difference. I used to have to plan two days in advance what I was going to work...and sometimes by the time that rolled around, I wasn't as interested in working the material like I was two days before! LOL Nice cabs. There is a variety of graveyard called regency rose that has pinks and maroons in it. Do a google image search on "regency rose graveyard point" This is one of my regency cabs as an example. Just noticed I took this picture in 2015. Probably a better example of the pink/reds. Chuck Thanks Chuck! I kind of figure GYPPA is a "poor man's" Regency Rose...kind of! LOL That cab looks amazing! I love the color variations of an almost "blush" coloring in the Regency Rose. Gorgeous cabs, Jason! And Chuck is right, you should get your hands on some Regency Rose. I've "cabbed" a few pieces and it is really nice stuff... Thanks Mike! Oh...I'll definitely get some Regency Rose one of these days...probably sooner rather than later! LOL Very nice cabs!! Your girdles are perfectly straight and the shape is dead on, nicely done. Tony Thank you so much Tony! I struggled with the girdle on the first couple cabs I did with the new machine, but quickly learned a good way to do it (for me). I thought my girdles were pretty good on the flat lap, so I expected the same on the cabbing machine. Whether right or wrong, I get my initial grind on the 80 as close as I can to the girdle. Then I go to the 220 hard and finish shaping, getting the dome right on the girdle line. Then I go to the 280 soft and finish the dome off. Reason being, the Sharpie is still there so I don't dip past the girdle line with the 280 soft. Once that's done, I go back to the 220 hard and do the girdle with a VERY light touch, then back to the 280 soft again.
