Howdy Folks, Here's a batch just out of the final polish. I still don't know why my camera will not pick up the shine but they did come out real glassy. First pic clockwise from far left is Primrose Jasper, Mixed Orbicular Jasper, a couple of pieces of Firefly Jasper, Hornitos Brecciated Jasper, and lower center, Cosmos Jasper. Closeup shows Cosmos on the left and Mixed Orbicular stuff on the right. Thanks for looking...Mel

Wow, Mel, if a jasper exists, I expect you've got it. Nice job on those above. You can tell they are shining. That orbicular jasper is sweet. What am I saying? They're all great looking.

mel those are beautiful!
sometimes i have to move all around in the yard to pick up the shine. usually if i can find a lightly shaded area to put my rocks in and then get the sun behind me i can pick up the shine.

Well Mel, the only way the rock gods can let you have such great stones and good polish is to screw up your attempts to photograph them. joe

KD: I use five steps usually. 6 weeks in 60-90, 10 days each in 220. 500, tripoli and cerium oxide. Could probably skip the 500 step as they look well prepolished out of the 220 after 10 days.

Alice: My stones all go to the kiddie booth the Ventura Gem and Mineral Society's annual gem show. I label, box and set aside the larger stones for prizes at the "Wheel of Fortune". Some I'll do as simple pendants for the same game. The rest go in our grab bags, the free treasure chest all the kids get to pick from, or the "sand sifting game" where the kiddies get to sift around in a sand box for polished stone, crystal and fossil treasures. The young 'uns really love all that stuff!! Even the adults get into it. It's really a blast!....Mel

Mel-
What a fun load you've got there. I'll bet that was a hard one to be patient with.
That red jasper you've just done and the brecciated jasper (I think it was Kimi) are about the neatest red stuff I've seen. I think I'll put in my order for Christmas right now.
thanks for posting those

Gaetz: Kim's brecciated material is very similar to much of the Hornitos Brecciated Jasper. I guess it's not surprising that similar geological conditions in different parts of the world create gems that are almost identical. Very kewl though. Makes the collecting all the more interesting!

Those are really stunning. My favourite of all is the stone in the second pic, top right, with the big white and red orbs on a wine-coloured background. But they are all great stones.
Hmm.... I'm probably going to look pretty silly at the next Ventura Gem and Mineral Society annual gem show, sitting in the sand box, sifting for those stones ;D

Nice! It looks kinda like an ancient ancestor of ocean jasper.
