I thought I'd work some Coprolite today...and a recent tumble thread of Bloodstone made me work some of that for the first time today too. I tried for quite awhile to get pics of the Bloodstone, but for the life of me I couldn't get pics to come out this afternoon. I had taken a quick shot this morning (with the Coprolite) and that shows its truest colors...but the shot of the two in my hand shows the glare. LOL. I'll try again tomorrow to get some better pics... Pics 1-3: Coprolite Pic 4: African Bloodstone Pics 5-6: Bloodstone post script: WARNING: Do not read the next sentence if you're squeamish! I was going to title this thread "Today's Bloody Stool", but I thought I better not! LOL post post script: I bet not one of you heeded the warning and every one of you read that last sentence! LOL post post post script: If you haven't watched the movie The Blindside, do your heart, mind, and soul a favor and watch it. Thanks for taking a gander.

How do you like working with a material with a strong color like those two darker bloodstone compared to the wasp nests you usually play with? Is it still enjoyable?
That African Bloodstone is a knockout btw...

Looks like a real mess of bloody stool you have there my friend. Did any of that Coprolite undercut or was it all pretty solid? It looks very good from here.

Bloodstone is very difficult for me to photograph. I think you did pretty good! It's my favorite. I really love bloodstone.

How do you like working with a material with a strong color like those two darker bloodstone compared to the wasp nests you usually play with? Is it still enjoyable? That African Bloodstone is a knockout btw... I loved working this Bloodstone. I know it's not the usual busy material I work, but it takes an amazing shine. Looks like a real mess of bloody stool you have there my friend. Did any of that Coprolite undercut or was it all pretty solid? It looks very good from here. See...didn't heed the warning! LOL Thanks my friend. None of the Coprolite undercut. I did have one cab that fractured during the initial grind...but everything else stayed together.

When I read the title, I thought you were talking about giving blood. This is more fun to look at! Those stones are blinding jasoninsd. I need to focus my technique and get mine like that! I should've cabbed today... Too cold. You've inspired me for rock day! In some cultures, it is known as Saturday 🤣)

From what I read in The Farmer's Almanac, tomorrow is supposed to be perfect for cabbing!

I LOVE Bloodstone and yours are beauties! Real Bloodstone (not the fancy jasper stuff) is getting so hard to find now. The nice, dark green with little red dots all over it. Dealers are calling Fancy Jasper Bloodstone now I guess because the original stuff is probably gone.
I think your pictures are fine, but I would think you'd have to photograph those under some type of diffused lighting. It just takes the best shine ever, and any kind of light is going to reflect all over the place off those babies!

Getting hard to find- true that! I'm sick of seeing fancy jasper being sold as bloodstone. I think there is a whole new generation of lapidary-ists who don't know the difference. The old stuff is awesome! I have a small stash, but until I find more- it stays in the stash.

Beautiful cabs again Jason! Re: bloodstone, I too have a few small (like tumble/small cab size) pieces of the good stuff. Didn't care for it back then but now I like it more and of course it's rare as hen's teeth. jasoninsd for the darker cabs try a dark background. I think the cameras focus more on the bright background and darken the subject (cab) with the lighter color background.

Thanks Robin! I tried to take a couple quick shots in the light from the window. I'll have to figure out later a way to give them their "glamour shot"! LOL I LOVE Bloodstone and yours are beauties! Like I need another reason to horde cabs! LOL Beautiful cabs again Jason! Re: bloodstone, I too have a few small (like tumble/small cab size) pieces of the good stuff. I tried a darker background...just a quick shot...and you're right. They definitely came out better than before. The white "specks" are a part of the stone...
