It was almost 60 degrees this afternoon in Michigan (with 30-50 mile per hour winds!)
I took advantage of the very unseasonably warm weather and cut some preforms outside. I managed to clean up about half of them on my 8" grinder before I called it a day. I'm excited to work some of these, including the pet wood, Ohio flint, and Royal Imperial Jasper. I'm getting better at not cutting preforms unless I truly want to cab them.
If anyone's got a guess on the origin of the pet wood in the first photo, I'd love to hear it. The one on the left could be AZ pet wood. Colors look like AZ rainbow wood, but the grain is different. (Black lines are not the grain. The grain is very subtle and runs horizontally across the cab.) I have no idea about the one on the right. The piece of rough sure looked like pet wood, but I've never seen anything like it.
The ones in the last 3 photos need cleaned up on the grinder.
