Very nice selection of material and shapes Jonathan! You really did a fantastic job on selecting patterns on those!

Very nice selection of material and shapes Jonathan! You really did a fantastic job on selecting patterns on those! Thanks. I spent at least 4 hours on the couch last night marking out preforms. I got about half of those preforms cut out today before it got dark at 5:00 p.m. I hate that part about winter. Most of that time on the couch was spent obsessively trying to identify every fracture, potential fracture, vug, and soft spot. If a slab has a lot of fractures (like a lot of Crazy Lace), I first draw a line over all the fractures with a sharpe marker so they stand out when I am moving the template around trying to find something I like. All except one or two of the preforms were done with templates. There is something nice (as you know) about picking a handful of favorite template shapes and working primarily with those shapes. Makes the cabbing process much more predictable.

I use a mechanical pencil to mark out the fractures or questionable areas on the slab, but mark the preform shape with a Sharpie.
