I had a long day and needed to cab so I walked to my cabber IMG_20211211_113306359 by Perkins17, on Flickr and filled up the feed bucket. I then fired it up to start cabbing, only then noticing the waste water bucket was full . I unlocked the door (right next to my machine) and trudged out a couple feet into the snow and dumped my bucket, finally ready to cab. I created this, IMG_20211216_190405914 by Perkins17, on Flickr IMG_20211216_190347318 by Perkins17, on Flickr I finished this, came inside, melted it off the nail, and sanded the glue off. The stupid feed bucked was freezing by the time I was done. I couldn't feel my fingers! Maybe I should move to California. Lots of beaches, good rocks, and nice people. Thanks for bearing with me on my rant and looking!

Beautiful little cab! Good job on that even with freezing fingers.
P.S. You need a space heater.

P.S. You need a space heater. Thank you! It was freezing! I do need to plug in a space heater. I've got two free but for some reason, I'm too lazy to plug in. I don't know why. I literally had snow on the ground that I tracked in that didn't even melt! I hope cabbing season isn't over. In my mind, it never will be. I'm pretty sure it's considered a watersport though... 😂

Glad it made you laugh! It kinda made me laugh too! I've even hydroplaned in the garage before so...anyway that story is for another day! 😂

LOL - I've lived in the north pretty much most of my life...and every year my disdain for the pain of cold gets worse each year. We just got between 6 and 8 inches the other day. It melted a little, and now refroze...so the entire driveway is a sheet of ice. Arghhh... There's been times when my wife parks her vehicle in the garage in the evening...then it melts off just enough to wet the garage floor...then freezes over by morning, making a skating rink in the garage...it's a whole lotta fun! LOL

It was super icy on the roads. Lots of cars sliding.

Well done cab!
It's never too cold to cab. I use straight hot tap water and that helps quite a bit. Had the space heater on in the shop yesterday and it got to a balmy 45° before I finished. Standing on the cold concrete (even with wool socks and insulated boots) is no fun once that cold works its way up.
If I may offer some suggestions for your photos. If available, try using the macro setting on your camera. This allows you to get closer to the subject and still be focused. Otherwise bringing the camera back so it can focus and then cropping the picture is another option. Photography is even harder than polishing rocks LoL. It took me longer to get decent pictures yesterday of that blue tiger eye than it did to cut the cab. I spent less than 2 hrs cutting and over 2 hrs messing around taking pictures 🤣

That's a great cab! I appreciate it even more given your adversity.
I could never ever live somewhere so cold. I don't mind snow ... for a day, but I just can't tolerate the cold. My old bones just aren't up to it. When I was a kid, it was a different story.

My girdle shot was terrible. I don't think I have macro photos but maybe. I put the space heater in the garage AFTER I was done rocking. I actually had to shovel snow yesterday! Photography is DEFINITELY harder than cabbing.

Thank you so much! I can't help cabbing no matter the weather. It totally helps me relax. Cold weather is kind of nice to me.

When in the NW a space heater and hot water was the drill on cold days. We over insulated our shop so we could leave the heater on low all winter and turn it up a touch when we were in there without too much extra power bill. AC is what we need now most of the time, although I did see frost at 6:30 AM yesterday.
Photos are also my Kryptonite. We have a light box and other gear buried somewhere in stuff that's still packed, the room it will go in is still being set up.

perkins17 . That cab is great. It has an unusual pattern for crazy lace. The polish looks fantastic. I don’t know if you’re taking pictures with your phone. I bought a clip on macro lens from Amazon. It works on my iPad or my wife’s phone. It was pretty inexpensive and it allows you to get much closer. The down side is that we have to take the cases off or there is a shadow around the perimeter of the photo. Thanks for sharing the cab. We got around 4-5 inches of snow yesterday. It’s a beautiful sunny day today. NDK . Nate, I know what you mean about getting the pictures. I spend time trying to get everything set up. When I take a picture and look at it, it’s blah. Getting the lights right is my nemesis. I hate to see a lot of shadows. There are lots of good photographers on RTH. I’m not one of them. I wonder if there is a thread somewhere with tips on photography. I’ll bet there is. I might try searching for one.

I brought down the space heater cause I'm getting to be a wuss about the weather.

Of course cooled in the Winter is not too big a deal here in Houston, the heat in Summer is another thing. I registered 96 degrees a few times in late afternoon. Running the 24" saw with it's larger motor can be a problem in the heat. Washing the Vib Lap rocks out on the driveway with the temp below 45 and the wind blowing is a character builder!!

In the cold freezing water can be an issue as well... Guess how I know. One of those lessons learned quick!

I washed a vibe lap out in freezing temperatures with a t-shirt on. I need to learn to dress for the weather.

Starguy I would bet there is a thread on photography, I seem to remember a discussion at some point about it.
