Thanks Perk...I really appreciate the kind words. Yeah...we've gotta work on that white towel! Of course! They are well deserved. By "white" I mean an old bleached white. I use it for drying my cabs after cleaning. I should invest in a photo setup. Lol! I really need to work on my photot setup a bit. Chuck posted his setup in his thread today, which I'm going to try and emulate... Nice work on all of those. I forget how similar Wildhorse and Cripple Creek can look. I may have to review some ID when I was guessing. You nailed that Plasma agate. I have a couple of those in the queue as well. Just need to find time. Loving Groot. And you already know I’m a fan of the bloodstone and anything you do with Teepee Canyon Thank you my friend! I'm 99.837% sure that's Cripple Creek... I really have a think for Plasma Agate. I think when it's gemmy, it looks stunning! So...Robin thinks that's Fancy Jasper rather than Bloodstone. I thought I got this from you. I know I got the African Bloodstone from someone else...but I was almost positive you sent this to me to cut... All are sexy as usual. Such a broad spectrum of material. Can't pick out a favorite. Thanks Bry! I had to switch up the way I was putting materials on dop. I was trying to work too much of the same material at once, which became boring in a sense. So, I figured I'd do fewer pieces of a lot more variety. They are all gorgeous, which has become the norm for you, Jason!
I absolutely love the Plasma, though. You killed that tabular shape and I'm happy to see you expanding your shape range.
As you know, I absolutely love bloodstone and since you don't give me anything to nit-pick at anymore, I'm going to say that because that stone has yellow in it, you have to call it Fancy Jasper. True bloodstone is dark green with red spots. Thanks Robin! I'm stuck with my shapes that I have already cut...so it might be a lot of teardrops (in more ways than just the shape! LOL) during the winter months... I tagged Stephan on the Jasper/Bloodstone to see if maybe he remembers the source...interesting. I'm lovin' them, Jason! I like the tube agates and plasma best. You sure get a purdy shine. Thanks Tela! My wife was commenting this afternoon about the difference in the polish with the new machine versus what I used to get... Does #16 have a template of a tear drop on the back? They are all awesome and you are quickly becoming a master! Oh yeah, I see this guy in #12... Thanks my friend! I laughed my a$$ off on that teardrop template question! LOL - Sad thing is, I didn't even have to look back at the pics to know which one you were talking about! LOL

I'll definitely be checking out Chuck's thread. I might get a digital camera and a macro lense soon so my pictures will steadily improve. Yours are great. I could probably build a light tent out of sheets and an old lamp. Hmm. So much stuff needed. So little space. 🙄

That was kind of what I was visualizing. I'm surprised you haven't used it more! It looks nice.

That's the same way I had made a light tent. A box & white tissue paper. Worked good. I should make another!

Now, I use my phone and a small copystand with little and bright cube lights. Much smaller footprint.

Your cab mostly is bloodstone, but a lot of what was called fancy jasper a few years ago is now being called bloodstone. It has more orange-red and yellow with a lighter green than the actual stone called bloodstone. They are both the same stone - heliotrope; the difference in names is the colors.
See this thread to see what I mean.

It’s definitely bloodstone. I think that wicked polish may distort the pics.

I hope you didn't take it as if I was butthurt...just confused. LOL I see what you're saying. I was reading something last week (maybe) and saw the comments regarding Bloodstone versus Fancy Jasper. I hadn't seen that thread from Chuck. It has great pictures of the two! It’s definitely bloodstone. I think that wicked polish may distort the pics. I think it's the wicked photographer that's distorting the pics! LOL

Smart. I really need to work on photography. I should start a thread for tips. Thanks for the help!

I'm in the same camp as Robin. It has to be green with red spots and no other colors. Love me some bloodstone!

In my experience, bloodstone can have yellow and white inclusions as well as the red. It is the size of the inclusions that matters more. Bloodstone has small, typically round(ish) inclusions. Fancy jasper has large ones that can also be irregular. From what I've read, the other color inclusions can be regarded as lesser quality, especially as sometimes the white areas are pitted, and don't take as much of a polish (which does not appear to be the case here). I've also picked up material sold as bloodstone with yellow and white at shows (I've called it "bloodstone with an infection"). I have seen very little of the just red and green anywhere, if ever, though, in some cases, I've been able to trim around the yellow and white.. Now, just purely being a smartass here, if you separate blood into its components: you also have white blood cells and serum (which is yellow). I believe the bloodstone Jason worked came from me (unless he also got some elsewhere, but it looks like the same stuff). I purchased the rough from the GemShop. They also sell Fancy jasper, and it looks different.

Dang Jason. My jaw about hit the floor when I was looking at these! You are rocking it! I love the plasma, and you have a perfect shape for the material. Well done.

I get it...and since you said something, I've looked up pictures. There's TONS of pictures depicting Bloodstone similar to mine...but I only found a few pictures of "old-school" Bloodstone. I'm in the same camp as Robin. It has to be green with red spots and no other colors. Love me some bloodstone! So it has to look like the Grinch with a case of the measles! LOL Right! And bloodstone was fairly cheap from what I remember...if only... Yeah...so was Microsoft and Apple stock back in the day...if only is right! Nah, no worries! The piece I had was a thicker than normal cut...which I felt badly about cutting...so I didn't send that one back to you! LOL Dang Jason. My jaw about hit the floor when I was looking at these! You are rocking it! I love the plasma, and you have a perfect shape for the material. Well done. Thanks John! That means a lot to me to hear that from you...and I must say, it's nice to see you back around here lately. You've been missed.

jasoninsd That reminds me. Once at the club, I stepped on a piece of obsidian, went right through the shoe-sole and into my foot. Required three stitches. One member, in true rock-hound form asked, “ what kind was it?” I replied, “it’s bloodstone now.” Not only is it fancy bloodstone jasper, it might be fancy shmancy. ETA: what I sent to be cut was sold as plain old bloodstone, and, at the time, the Gem Shop had all three in stock (bloodstone, fancy bloodstone and fancy jasper). I'm going with bloodstone with an elevated "white cell count."
