My garage space is limited and I don't have a place outside for my 18" saw so before I give up on it I hatched a plan to make it mobile and see how it goes. My youngest son is a welder and I hired him to build this for me. I forgot to take pictures before I loaded the saw on it but it's pretty easy to envision the build - scrap 2" angle iron cut on the diagonal and welded at the corners. I bought the locking [a href="https://www.amazon.com/s?k=steel+casters&adFormat=grid&adId=searchbar&adMode=search&adType=smart&creativeASIN=searchbar&imprToken=0b9490ad223dab5551485f6cb9409b96&impressionTimestamp=1640201367211&linkCode=w42&ref-refURL=https%3A%2F%2Fforum.rocktumblinghobby.com%2F&sig=undefined&sigts=undefined&slotNum=1[blocked Amazon Associate tag]rocktumblin05-20&ref=sm_n_se_dkp_US_sea"] 4 inch steel casters on Amazon[/a] - 1200 lbs total weight. I won't bother with the specific link because there are a thousand options available. It rolls easy now on the smooth garage floor. I can literally move it with one finger. I kind of wanted a plate steel insert but that thought turned expensive in a hurry and plywood works. I might paint it black before it gets too oily to paint.

Good deal! I hope this works out well for you in the long term so you don't have to get rid of it.

I will take three of them. You want fries with that? haha And yes that's a 2.0 hp Baldor motor on there now haha. I got it for free and it's all I had laying around when the motor went out

Nice build Tommy. Even better your son helped with it 👍 Absolutely right but I'll use the term 'helped' loosely. I handed him a bag of casters and he eventually handed back the finished product. I know I'm a proud dad but he's truly a badass. Straight out of high school he started working for some family friends who own a dredging company and they taught him how rig and weld and now at 27 he's a journeyman pipe fitter working at a Dow Chemical plant.

Your son did a good job. I would've done the same unless I added side supports for the leg. That bad boy is top heavy and if it hit a good crack/bump while moving, one of those corners could easily fold under and then your rebuilding your saw.

How come you just did not put some castors on the plates on the legs? I thought about it but I worried about being able to find casters where the holes would line up with the saw feet holes without drilling - but mostly it came down to my distrust of modern cheap-ass casters. If I were rolling it and broke one it's a lot bigger deal if it's fastened to the saw vs. a removable cart.

Apparently I did not give you the castors/stand that was on it. What a JERK I am, I wonder where it went.

That is a really cool portable solution!
Does it have any kind of brakes to keep it from moving when it's operating? I can't see if the caster have locks...
Wait...never mind...I guess I'm supposed to READ what you wrote, and not just look at the pictures! LOL

Tommy this is awesome! I’m actually doing the same thing but I’m going to use a harbor freight polypropylene service cart. I don’t want to use my oil saw in the garage so planned on wheeling it out on a tarp out front. I was window shopping the wheeled carts a month ago and the harbor freight unit looks like it will serve my needs. Just waiting for H B to restock these, they’ve been out of them for a while now.

Tommy do you know the manufacturer and year of your saw? The one I bought a few months back looks almost identical to yours. I am going to have to do a quite a bit of work to it but it is built like a tank. It took two people to move into my storage container. I measured the blade that was on it today and it is a 20 inch saw. Once I take all the accessories off and get down to the basin and legs I am going to have it sand blasted and powder coated.

It's an original Highland Park but I don't know the year. I've likened it to a 1968 Chevy Impala that I used to have as my first car - lots of tinkering with it and a couple of motor replacements along the way but when it's running it's solid as a rock! I got it from AzRockGeek, maybe he knows?

I don’t really know if I need this saw but I want it and the restoration will keep me busy. I hope it will be solid as a rock, it is certainly as heavy as a big one. I will learn how to post pictures and provide a little before and after.

I got it from AzRockGeek , maybe he knows? If I recall correctly, that was a first generation square rail, it had sharp corners on the rails and no roller bearings on the carriage. It would probably be made in the early to mid-60's, I believe in the late 60's early 70's they went to the 2nd generation square rail with the rounded corners and roller bearings on the carriage. I am sure there is someone on this forum that knows the HP history better then me.
