So probably 6 months or so ago my sister in law had asked if I could make some stone cabinet knobs to replace some outdated hardware on a cpl pieces of furniture she had. One pc needed drawer pulls abt 4 inches in length. I started working on a design for the drawer pulls that could be done on my genie and picked out the stone for it but didn't get much further into the project. But with Christmas coming up and my Sister in law being notoriously hard to shop for I finally got around to finishing them. The pulls are made out of limestone that construction company used as road base so their heavy machinery didn't track dirt and stuff out onto roadway. Doesn't take a perfect polish but its solid and i think polish is good enough for this type of application. The single knobs are an unknown material used in landscaping of a place that has long been out of business. Landscaping places around here sell It as Arizona river rock. Same on this material regarding polish...not the best but adequate I think. The pulls are roughly 110mm long and single knobs are roughly 40x30mm... Oh, and I just started toying around with some uses for the hundreds of pounds of calcite crystal I've collected from a local creek. Actually same place I got the limestone from... these are just work In progress.. Can't really tell in pic but this has "facets" all the way around (except top and bottom portions) so I could grind on it without adjusting wheel spacing on genie. Not sure I like it... And this one is just raw pc of crystal. Looks pretty cool w lights off but camera doesn't photo it well. And crystal really sparkles when it's not on. (Forgot to take photo of that so just have to trust me lol). I've got some other pieces I'm playing with so dunno if il use this one or not either. Reminds me of the Himalayan (Pakistani ) salt lamps. That's all for now but I'd love to hear others opinions on the calcite lamps- if like raw or finished style better, or think both are junk pls let me know. If have opinion on knobs I'd love to hear those as well. (Disclaimer- I'm not always the best about replying in timely manner, tho I do read and appreciate all comments, I am usually on here during down times at work and once get busy I tend to forget to reply to comments Iv read. )

Oh and speaking of calcite - I grabbed this sizable chunk this morning before work. The Boulder it came off of is much bigger than I originally thought. I've collected at least 300-400 lbs from it and there's 3-4 times as much left.

Your pulls and knobs are very cool. Did you use the standoffs from the existing knobs, and epoxy to attach them? Those are nice gifts!
Love your calcite lamps — both of them, but the finished one just a little more.

Love your calcite lamps — both of them, but the finished one just a little more. Thank you! I purchased the standoffs for the pulls and knobs from this place called Dlawless hardware -https://www.dlawlesshardware.com/ they have a big variety of hardware for DIY knobs in lots of finishes. But yes, I just epoxied the stone to the standoffs I purchased from there. I'm not sure how well they would hold up to regular usage but where these are going they won't get much use. The single knobs will get more use tho, so will see how well they hold up. That was one of reasons I didn't use any nicer material for those.

Holy smokes. You're going to turn her cabinets in to an heirloom. Those are great!

I think the drawer pulls are fabulous! I want some for my cabinets. I actually think the shine you got on those pulls is pretty dang good. I think I'd prefer it to high mirror shine only because they won't show fingerprints so much. I think they're perfect.
I like both styles of lamps, but I like the finished one more. The shape is cool and it looks like a piece of modern rock-art.
Great job on all of it!

I guess I'm going to be the outsider...but I like the raw piece of crystal on the lamp better. Not saying the finished piece looks bad...I just like the idea of the crystal in its natural state. Now...the pulls are off the charts amazing! Seriously beautiful! Like Robin said, I think they have just the right finish on them for what they're intended use is. Great job on those!

I like both the polished and raw crystals, but I guess I'd lean more towards raw just because you can see the natural state of it.
The cabinet pulls look great! When we got our new kitchen cabinets about 15 years ago, I had the idea to make the pulls out of the scrap pieces of the Verde Marinace granite that I had the fabricators save for me. I've made 0% progress so far, but it's only been 15 years, so there is still time ;-)

I've been thinking about doing it for about 8 years now ....
But, I just may have gotten some inspiration seeing these. Thanks for the link to the hardware place, too, oldschoolrocker!

Really love the hardware pulls, and I think that the subdued shine works well for a kitchen setting. What an interesting pattern on them both.

Thanks for the kind words and input on lamps! I didn't even think about fingerprints showing more on mirror polish...they have 4 boys in the house so anything that doesn't add to the mess they already make is a plus!

I'm with you on liking the raw crystal in natural state. I actually found a better raw pc to use but don't have pic at the moment. Il update thread later with new pic.. and thank you for the very kind words as well!

Thanks for input on lamp! I lran toward raw crystal as well for same reasons. I think that particular pc isn't best fit tho. I have another raw one that I like much better than one posted. Il update thread w new pics when home. I think it's much better fit for application.
